- While he has a deep love and passion for modern entertainment, the way to Mikael's heart is through Showa-era kaiju movies and underground animation made between the 1930s and 1970s.
- He has professionally interviewed numerous industry talents, including Michael B. Jordan, Barry Jenkins, Colman Domingo, the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, Maya Erskine, several Pixar artists, and more.
- Along with his career in journalism, Mikael also runs a boutique animation studio called TriClops Studios, which produces both commercial and original stop-motion animated short films and music videos.
Experience
Mikael Trench is an award-winning writer with nearly eight years of professional experience in entertainment and multimedia journalism. He has won numerous state and national awards, including a 1st Place Best Review Georgia College Press Association Award in 2019, 2020 (where he swept the competition by also winning second and third place), and 2021. He was also awarded the 2019 Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Digital Awards Certificate of Merit and came in first place at the 2020 College Media Association Nationwide Pinnacle Awards Best Arts and Entertainment Story. He's also had roles as a multimedia video editor and arts and entertainment editor for organizations such as VOX ATL, SCAD Connector, and SCAN Magazine. There his knowledge of both popular and obscure films and TV shows has earned him several accolades and the opportunity to interview several major names in the entertainment industry. Additionally, Mikael is an award-winning filmmaker who brings his unique experience to the table when diving into his subject matter, aiming to educate himself and others about the industry's nuances.
Education
Mikael Trench attended the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he earned a BFA in animation. During his studies, he became heavily involved in student media as an arts and entertainment editor, where he balanced full-time classes while working around tight deadlines, attending pitch meetings, and further guiding other writers and contributors.
