Resident Evil 4 Remake - What We Know So Far

Gaming insiders have reported Capcom intends to continue its chronological remakes of the Resident Evil series. In the wake of the Resident Evil 3 launch, the company seems to have set its sights on a Resident Evil 4 remake

According to Video Games Chronicle, former PlatinumGames boss Tatsuya Minami is heading up the project at a new Osaka-based studio called M-Two, which has apparently been keeping the project under wraps since 2018. If these rumors are correct, that means you'll likely hear more about Leon's European holiday sooner rather than later. In the meantime, here's what has surfaced so far about Resident Evil 4 Remake.

When will the Resident Evil 4 remake release?

Resident Evil 4 was remastered and re-released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC back in 2011, and it didn't look too shabby then. The fourth game in the iconic franchise has been called the first Resident Evil title of the "modern era" thanks to much improved graphics. Gone are the days of blocky, pixelated mutants. Resident Evil 4 ushered in a new era of surprisingly realistic gore and grime. In a good way, of course.

The development team has a solid foundation to work off of, even considering the departure from the familiar setting of Raccoon City. According to VGC's sources, the remake has entered full production and will release at some point in 2022. This is just a year after the rumored launch of a brand new Resident Evil 8 for current and next-gen consoles in 2021.

What platforms will the Resident Evil 4 remake be on?

Based on the availability of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, it seems likely Resident Evil 4 will release on PC and PlayStation. Even with this in mind, analysts can only speculate as to whether the remake will launch on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, which will have been on the market for over a year by the time the supposed release date rolls around.

Back when the Resident Evil 3 remake was just a rumor, leakers suggested it would be the final Resident Evil game released for the current generation of consoles. If this proves true, Resident Evil 4 Remake might skip the PlayStation 4 altogether.

Is there a trailer for the Resident Evil 4 remake?

Since Capcom has not officially announced the title, there isn't a Resident Evil 4 Remake trailer. Like a Tyrant busting through a door, Capcom totally surprised fans with the trailer for the Resident Evil 3 remake. Therefore, Capcom could very well spring an announcement trailer on fans at any time. You should emulate the S.T.A.R.S. officers and remain vigilant.

What is the Resident Evil 4 Remake story?

Resident Evil 4 takes place six years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Leon S. Kennedy is once again protagonist, and he's not a confused rookie this time around. Because of his experience handling bioweapons and mutants, the president of the United States tasks him with finding and retrieving his kidnapped daughter, Ashley. Ashley was nabbed by a cult in rural Spain that has contracted some nasty, parasitic powers.

Leon, with the help of none other than Ada Wong, uncovers the cult's master plan to use the Las Plagas parasite to control the president. True to typical Resident Evil form, the game culminates with a battle with a big, ugly baddie, and Leon riding away into the sunset while Ada disappears, her own mysterious mission fulfilled.

It's not clear if the remake would deviate from the original plot, or if it would just add in some more immersive graphics. You'll have to wait to see what's in store for this alleged Resident Evil 4 remake.
