Marvel's VisionQuest Episode 6 Features A Perfect Spider-Man Easter Egg
Contains spoilers for "VisionQuest" Season 1, Episode 6 – "Deadlock"
Vision (Paul Bettany) is usually stoic, but "VisionQuest" Episode 6 ("Deadlock") shows that he has one major Achilles' heel: Teenagers. When he finds himself teaming up with Lisa Molinari (Lauren Morais) to rescue Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica) from Paladin's (Todd Stashwick) clutches in Madripoor, he soon finds out that he bit off more than he can chew when Lisa utterly ignores his plans.
When an uncharacteristically frustrated Vision complains about his difficulty understanding teenagers, E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire) appears to briefly commiserate. As she does so, she delivers a fun little Easter egg that refers to her own origins in "Spider-Man: Far From Home."
As she puts it, she can relate to Vision's plight since her first boss was a junior in high school. Longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will recognize this as a reference to the events of "Far From Home," where E.D.I.T.H. debuts as the A.I. housed in the sunglasses Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) posthumously gifts Peter Parker (Tom Holland). To drive home the message, the "VisionQuest" avatar of E.D.I.T.H. even briefly wears said glasses when she delivers the reference.
Peter Parker and E.D.I.T.H. have an awkward history
E.D.I.T.H. is not wrong when she tells Vision that she's had her own troubles with teenagers. Her relationship with Peter in "Spider-Man: Far from Home" is tumultuous at best. Peter accidentally attempts to assassinate classmate Brad Davis (Remy Hii) with an E.D.I.T.H.-controlled drone strike, and later gives E.D.I.T.H. to Quentin "Mysterio" Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), who promptly goes full supervillain with the A.I.'s power.
By the ending of "Spider-Man: Far from Home," E.D.I.T.H. has effectively been used as a weapon of mass destruction by Mysterio because Peter chose to gift her to the villain. Perhaps mercifully, she spends the confusing events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" inactive, so she's spared from that particular film's multiversal shenanigans. Even so, people who know their MCU Spider-Man lore can no doubt nod in agreement when they hear E.D.I.T.H. note that she knows a thing or two about just how difficult teenagers can be, even if you happen to be a powerful artificial intelligence.
