Emilia Clarke Wraps Filming On Young Han Solo Movie

Emilia Clarke is ready to return to Westeros. Director Ron Howard revealed on Twitter early Sunday that the actress has wrapped filming on her part in the upcoming young Han Solo Star Wars anthology film, which is due out in 2018.

Howard took over the film after the original directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, were fired with just a few weeks left of filming. While the two listed "creative differences" as the official reason for their departure, extensive reports have said that they were fired from the project over far-reaching conflicts with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan. Howard's work entailed an extra month of production.

Clarke is set to play the female lead in the movie opposite Alden Ehrenreich as the title character and Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. Very little is known about Clarke's character, as plot details for the mysterious film have been kept tightly under wraps. Her former co-star Michael K. Williams, whose role was cut from the film amid reshoots, revealed in an interview that the character was named Kira, although other reports have contradicted that.

Howard announced Clarke's filming wrap with a photo of the two together, captioning it, "@emiliaclarke has wrapped filming on #UntitledHanSoloMovie. She's given us a terrifically strong & exciting character. Fun 2 work with, 2!". Clarke, who recently shared a picture on her Instagram of her dying her hair Targaryen blonde for the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones, is still brunette in the pic, hinting that she is either wearing a wig or it was actually taken a few days ago.

Howard's social media accounts have been full of teases to the upcoming film. His teases include hints at the Millennium Falcon's Kessel Run, mentioned in A New Hope, and a recent hint at "desperate and dangerous times in the Galaxy" involving some mysterious locations and even some explosions. He has even teased that the Death Star could be involved somehow.

The rest of the cast for the young Han Solo film includes Woody Harrelson as Han's criminal mentor, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, Warwick Davis, and Thandie Newton in undisclosed roles. The movie has a May 25, 2018 release date; for now, see what we want to happen when the movie hits the big screen.
