We're a couple months out from the start of a new calendar, and 2027 is already shaping up to be a huge year for TV and streaming. There are still a lot of unknowns as far as exact premiere dates, and there's a handful of big shows that might drop seasons in the new year, but meanwhile, there's a ton of confirmed debuts and returns to definitely get excited about.

If we tried to highlight every major show hitting next year, we'd be here all day. Instead, we're going to highlight a handful of the most anticipated series for 2027. From long-awaited sci-fi adaptations and major franchise installments, to beloved anime series and a few acclaimed shows releasing their final seasons, there's a lot to get into.

Without further ado, let's tackle a look at some of the most promising new and returning shows of 2027, when you can expect to see them, and what to know.

Neuromancer

Adapting William Gibson's seminal 1984 cyberpunk novel "Neuromancer" — viewed by many as the ur-text of the genre — has been a decades-long mission. Various attempts have been made, with none ever making it to the screen. But that struggle ends in 2027.

Apple TV has made itself the de facto home for big-budget, high-concept science fiction TV, making it a natural fit for the long-awaited series. Callum Turner will star as lead protagonist Case, with Briana Middleton playing street samurai Molly Millions and Mark Strong as the enigmatic Armitage. With a two-episode premiere on January 22, "Neuromancer" is primed to be one of the first major shows of the year, and if it pulls off the ambitious goal of successfully adapting Gibson's masterpiece for the screen, it'll easily be one of the best.

Of course, changes will be made in the interest of adaptation. Book loyalists rarely get a one-to-one homage with these series, but the early trailer footage for "Neuromancer" looks promising — and expensive. Gibson himself has thrown his endorsement behind the show. "Anyone who doesn't see how very satisfied I've been throughout production doesn't get what I most want out of an adaptation," the author wrote on Bluesky back when the first teaser trailer released in July. This certainly isn't Gibson's first rodeo in the realm of live-action adaptation ("Johnny Memnonic" adapted his short story of the same name, which also featured Molly Millions), so his enthusiasm counts for something.

The Pitt Season 3

Few shows loom as large on television right now as "The Pitt," the Emmy-hoarding HBO Max medical drama that's effectively shattered the familiar genre and rebuilt it into something sleek, real, and intense. Noah Wyle continues to headline a superstar cast including Isa Briones, Katherine LaNasa, Patrick Ball, and Taylor Dearden, with "The Pitt" Season 3 once again covering a single ER shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

The new season begins in January, carrying with it all the built-up hype and expectations from two monumentally popular prior seasons. It's hard to overstate how difficult it is to redefine a formula as set in stone as the hospital procedural, just as it's hard to overstate the hold "The Pitt" keeps on the top bracket of narrative television since its 2025 debut. The production team's ability to keep the show to an annual release schedule — something that's become less common in the realms of streaming and modern "prestige TV" — has only added to its aura.

For a normal show, that would add up to an intense amount of pressure. But "The Pitt" is already in rarified air, securing the last two wins for outstanding drama series at the Primetime Emmy Awards. If TV were a sports season, we'd be talking about the all-time great dynasties right about now. As Robby says at the end of the Season 3 trailer, "It's time to get back to it."

Ahsoka Season 2

What once was an annual deluge of Disney+ Star Wars shows has slowed to a trickle, with only two returning series confirmed for 2027 — Season 2 of the animated series "Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord," and Season 2 of "Ahsoka." The latter is set to premiere on January 20, ending a nearly unforgivable 40-month gap since the end of "Ahsoka" Season 1.

The sheer amount of time since the first season wrapped means that plenty of casual fans have likely forgotten what even was happening. Hopefully, the show can get over that, because the first trailer for Season 2 actually looks really good. This is the most homework-dependent of all the live-action Star Wars shows, pulling details from "The Clone Wars," "Rebels," and bits of the expanded universe, in addition to "The Mandalorian" and the sequel trilogy. But what we've seen so far of the new season looks like pure, classic Star Wars, complete with massive space battles and Jedi spirit quests. If Dave Filoni can nail it, this could be a huge win for the franchise.

While Star Wars TV has had its ups and downs, a major live-action installment like this is still a big event and well worth including on a list of the year's most anticipated releases. The franchise will be focusing more on the big screen in 2027, with the 50-year anniversary of the original film and the release of the Ryan Gosling-led "Star Wars: Starfighter" on May 28, and a bit less pressure could be just what "Ahsoka" needs to make good on a promising but marred first season.

Bloodaxe

If you're not tuning in for "Ahsoka" Season 2 on January 20, maybe the new Prime Video series "Bloodaxe" is more your speed. Newly premiering in 2027, "Bloodaxe" might not make the cut for this list normally, but when the guy who made "Vikings" releases another show about Vikings, there's going to be more attention.

Michael Hirst created not only "Vikings" but "The Tudors" as well, with enough other credits on his resume to make him one of the leading creators in big-budget historical drama today. "Bloodaxe" will center on the real historic figure Eric Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) and his fight for the throne of Norway against Haakon Haraldsson (Levi Miller).

Because "Vikings: Valhalla" didn't quite hit the same notes as its predecessor (Hirst was also only involved in the second series as an executive producer), it's easy to forget what a force "Vikings" was in the larger pop culture for the better part of a decade. With an Amazon budget and a great first trailer debuted at New York Comic Con 2026, this could be a big hit. Hirst's history in the genre is certainly substantial enough to warrant some serious attention, and the show has already been renewed for a second season ahead of the Season 1 premiere.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2

It's been three years since "Blue Eye Samurai" became a sensation on Netflix, pulling in fans with its stylish look and brutal fight sequences. The long-awaited Season 2 finally arrives in January, adding Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster, and Sherry Cola to the core cast. And based on the trailer footage, we're in for another treat.

Season 2 will see Mizu (Maya Erskine) traveling to London to continue her bid for vengeance, changing up the setting for her part of the story. A third and final season has also been ordered, which Netflix has said will air in 2028, meaning a much shorter gap between seasons this time. Given the streamer's reputation for premature cancellations, it's nice to see a successful series get the full order with a plan from start to finish. With luck, "Blue Eye Samurai" Season 2 will be well worth the wait.

Heated Rivalry Season 2

The fact that we already know about "hockey romance" as a defined genre of fiction is a testament to just how massive "Heated Rivalry" became almost overnight. While there are other instances of this emergent, hyper-specific category, it is the standard-bearer, and for good reason. Based on the novels by Rachel Reid and created by Jacob Tierney (of "Letterkenny" and "Shoresy" fame), the series is a masterclass in character work from all, elevated by strong direction and writing but anchored by the chemistry between its two young leads.

This is a romance in the truest sense, in that it's laser-focused on the complex relationship between rival hockey stars Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie). Season 1 covers years, following them from the start of their professional careers through their constant battles over championships and MVP awards, all while they take up a passionate romantic relationship in secret.

There are some smaller side plots, but by and large, this is a show about two men falling in love, shot and written with rich artistry and precision, defined by two titanic yet frequently understated performances. We don't have an exact release date yet, but "Heated Rivalry" Season 2 is intended for release in the spring of 2027, and we will be seated for it.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5

Star Trek is never not a big deal in the world of television, but we're approaching one of the more momentous occasions for the franchise in recent years with the fifth and final season of "Strange New Worlds" on Paramount+. The show, which acts as a prequel to the original "Star Trek" series, is arguably the most beloved entry in the franchise since the end of "Deep Space Nine," and while we don't yet have a confirmed date for Season 5, all evidence points to a 2027 premiere.

We do know that Season 5 will be six episodes, instead of the 10 episodes of prior seasons. Despite the truncated length, it's an exciting time for the fandom, closing out a series that's been widely celebrated over the course of its run. The franchise has taken many swings in its still-young streaming era, and this has been the clear home run. Let's hope it goes out with a bang.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3

For the second time in a decade, Charlie Cox's "Daredevil" series is ending. "Daredevil: Born Again" Season 3 will be the show's last, with a presumed release in 2027, though an exact premiere date has yet to be announced. Marvel TV recently showed footage at a New York Comic Con panel attended by Looper, which showed Matt Murdoch fighting his way through prison after his arrest at the end of Season 2.

What's perhaps more exciting for longtime fans is the full reunion of the Defenders, with Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist joining both Cox and Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones. It's a proper send-off for the Netflix Marvel era, which has built out a full second chapter on Disney+. And with "Born Again" Season 2 earning stronger reviews than Season 1, the final installment may well be the best one yet.

Silo Season 4

We mentioned when regarding "Neuromancer" about how Apple TV has built a reputation for producing the best science fiction on TV. "Silo" is a huge part of that wave, building steady momentum since its 2023 debut to become one of the most acclaimed genre shows on TV right now. The series is set to end with "Silo" Season 4, which will premiere on July 9, 2027.

Based on the dystopian novels from author Hugh Howey, "Silo" details the secrets and conspiracies of a subterranean community with a rigid social structure. But if you've watched the show to this point, you know there's much more going on than that single premise suggests. Rebecca Ferguson leads an all-star cast that includes everyone from Tim Robbins and David Oyelowo to Jessica Henwick and Rashida Jones.

Part dystopian sci-fi, part mystery box show, and part thriller, "Silo" has set up a lot of strong material to cash for the final season. "I really think the show and the promises in Episode 1 of Season 1 come back in Season 4," main cast member Ashley Zukerman said in a recent interview with Decider. "That's the beauty of it. Everything was there. Everything had a purpose. Everything had meaning. There was no wasted moment. I think people will be satisfied."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2

While "House of the Dragon" fans wait for the final fourth season, Westeros is still getting a 2027 update with "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Season 2, premiering some time in the first half of the year.

Season 1 offered a more lighthearted visit to George R. R. Martin's fantasy world than its predecessors, with just six episodes and a simpler, more digestible story, though that hardly made the series less enjoyable. To the contrary, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Season 1 still has lots of complexity, and a good amount of fun to gentle the more heartbreaking elements. With luck, Season 2 will be just as strong.

Showrunner Ira Parker has confirmed that Season 2 will be another six episodes, adapting the second of Martin's "Dunk and Egg" novellas, "The Sworn Sword." In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Parker teased that the new installment will be, "a different season, and, I hope, for the better."

Delicious in Dungeon Season 2

In addition to a bunch of fantastic domestic television on the docket for 2027, it's also a big year for anime, with international hits like "Frieren" and "Apothecary Diaries" getting fresh episodes. Our chosen highlight, though, is for "Delicious in Dungeon," which returns for its second season in the new year following a massively popular debut in 2024. Fans will have waited three years by the time Season 2 arrives in October of next year.

In that gap, the subgenre of meta dungeon crawler fantasy has exploded in America, thanks to the overwhelming success of Matt Dinniman's "Dungeon Crawler Carl" novels. This series was already several books deep in 2024 but they've really taken off over the last couple of years. That popularity could help make the highly anticipated return of "Delicious in Dungeon" an even bigger hit internationally than Season 1, making this one of the key anime series to watch for in 2027 (as if it weren't already).

Bridgerton Season 5

Bridgerton is gay — for real this time. In 2027, we are getting two female leads for the hit Netflix romance series' fifth season, which will air on an as-yet-unknown date in the new year. Hannah Dodd stars as Lady Francesca Stirling, née Bridgerton, alongside Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling, the cousin of Francesca's late husband. Netflix has already released some teaser images of the pair while fans await the new episodes.

"If there's anything really specific about this season, it's the yearning," Showrunner Jess Brownell told Netflix Tudum. "It's big-time yearning. It's going to be a season about queer joy. It's not going to be a season about queer trauma. We're having so much fun!"

That fun may not have a release date yet, but "Bridgerton" has yet to let us down, so the wait will surely be worth it. The show's sixth season has also been confirmed ahead of the Season 5 release, in addition to a prequel series about Violet and Edmund Bridgerton that was recently announced.

The White Lotus Season 4

HBO has a stacked lineup for 2027, including both the next season of "The Last of Us" and "The White Lotus" Season 4. The latter show has become one of the network's standard-bearers over the last few years, with an anthology structure and clown car so full of top-level talent that makes it a natural curiosity season after season. The new outing, which will arrive in 2027 but has yet to name an official release date, will feature the likes of Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Laura Dern.

"The White Lotus" Season 3 was strong. The show's attraction doesn't seem to be wavering much as we march to a new year, though Season 4 got some early coverage in a less flattering way after Helena Bonham Carter left the project over creative differences with showrunner Mike White. We'll see next year if Season 4 can keep up the momentum the series has built.

Vought Rising

When you talk about the biggest shows of the past decade, you have to talk about "The Boys." And while the gritty superhero series has come to an end, Prime Video's efforts to proliferate it into a franchise are far from over. Fans will get a new prequel series in 2027 with "Vought Rising," detailing the origins of the villainous pharmaceutical corporation, with Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy in the leading role.

"Vought Rising" is scheduled for a Prime Video premiere sometime in 2027. Set in the 1950s, the series is helmed by Paul Grellong, who came onto the original series as a producer in 2022. In addition to Ackles, Aya Cash's Stormfront and Mason Dye's Bombsight are also returning, with new cast members including Will Hochman, Cecily Strong, KiKi Layne, Mark Pellegrino, and Nicolò Pasetti.

While "The Boys" didn't end on its most beloved season, the franchise remains a lode-bearer at Amazon. But with the popular "Gen V" having been canceled, the success of "Vought Rising" could be make or break for this comic book universe. The first trailer for "Vought Rising" got a mixed reception earlier this year, but after the polarized response to Season 5 of the flagship show, that's not entirely surprising.

The One Piece

There is no show on television quite like "One Piece," the 27-years-old-and-counting anime based on the also-still-running manga from Eiichiro Oda. Both on the page and on the screen, "One Piece" is a global phenomenon — a one-of-one instance of international success stretched out over decades, which has only gained more momentum over the last several years. But there's also a problem for new fans: the length. With over a thousand episodes, "One Piece" is more than a task to get into. It's a project of mammoth proportions.

Enter "The One Piece," a new animated adaptation of the manga hitting Netflix in February 2027. The streamer has already gained a lot of goodwill with the fanbase after its successful live-action "One Piece" adaptation — a rarity in the world of anime — and the new animated series aims to make the task of catching up more accessible. Animated by WIT Studio of "Attack on Titan" and "Spy x Family" fame, the new series will truncate the extremely prolonged storylines of the original anime, cutting out filler and distilling the primary threads into a more digestible format.

Diehards will surely lament the losses made by cutting so much material, but in the interest of bringing in more active fans, "The One Piece" is a promising and exciting idea. According to Netflix, "Season 1 will span seven episodes, with a total runtime of around 300 minutes," suggesting a 45-ish-minute runtime per episode, or roughly double that of the original show.
