Men In Black International: First Photo Features Gun-Toting Chris Hemsworth And Tessa Thompson

More secretive than the C.I.A., more powerful than the F.B.I., they are the Men in Black

Chris Hemsworth had a huge day on Friday: just as Marvel Studios was shaking up the cinema world with the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame, in which the Aussie actor stars as the down-but-not-out Asgardian god of thunder Thor, Hemsworth offered up the first official photo from Men in Black International

Uploaded to Hemsworth's Twitter account on Friday morning, the Men in Black International snap shows Hemsworth gussied up in a crisp white shirt, black suit jacket, and matching slacks. In character as Agent H, Hemsworth stands with a gun in his hand and his mouth half open. Next to him — dressed in the exact same get-up, looking equally as stern, and toting the same laser gun — is Tessa Thompson, Hemsworth's Thor: Ragnarok co-star who brought the badass, booze-loving Valkyrie to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thompson portrays Agent M, the apparent partner and presumed confidant of Agent H.

It's evident that the still was captured while the pair were filming an intense scene for Men in Black International, the spin-off film that refreshes the Men in Black franchise, but Hemsworth joked that it was actually taken when the cameras weren't rolling, and that he and Thompson are everyday superheroes who regularly chase down criminals and give them their just desserts.

"#FBF shooting MIB with my partner in galaxy protection @TessaThompson_x when we were ripping aliens a new one. From memory, this shot was taken in between set ups when we noticed some criminal activity on the streets in London," Hemsworth captioned the snap, including the hashtag #MIBInternational and tagging the official Men in Black Twitter account right at the end. The actor followed up in a second tweet, "We immediately drew our laser guns and took down one of the largest crime syndicates in the city. Happy to say the streets of London are now safe again. You're welcome world."

This photo reveal comes just a few days after Collider's Steve Weintraub discovered at Brazil Comic Con that the upcoming spin-off is indeed titled Men in Black International. Until that point, everyone everywhere had been referring to the film by various different names: Untitled Men in Black Spin-Off, the Men in Black reboot, the new Men in Black movie, and the Men in Black project that reunites two of the best actors in the entire MCU. (Or was that last one just us?)

Men in Black International has been described as being on "more of a global scale" in terms of its action and its story as compared to its predecessors, which starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in the central roles. While it's still focused on the "black-clad secret force that protects earth from the alien scum of the universe," the film is also billed as a "contemporary sci-fi pic" — suggesting that director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Fate of the Furious) will make some interesting creative decisions to turn Men in Black International into something more than just a plain ol' reboot.

Hemsworth and Thompson's tag team of Agent H and Agent M is one of the biggest selling points of Men in Black International — fans and critics couldn't get enough of their banter in Thor: Ragnarok, so they're eager to see the stars back together again for another project – as is the inclusion of A-list actors like Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, and Rafe Spall. The lead stars' on-screen chemistry paired with what sounds like a thrilling new take on the established Men in Black lore makes Men in Black International a movie you won't want to miss next year.

Men in Black International will open in theaters on June 14, 2019.
