Why Larry The Hotel Manager From Yellowjackets Looks So Familiar

Contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" Season 2, Episode 1 — "Friends, Romans, Countrymen"

"Yellowjackets" has finally returned with a buzz-worthy Season 2 that's even better the first gripping installment. We pick up right where we left off in Season 1 with the girls' soccer team adapting to their frigid surroundings and strategically mapping it out in the past. In the present day, the surviving women deal with the consequences of their actions in the wilderness as Misty (Christina Ricci) searches for Natalie (Juliette Lewis) following her mysterious disappearance. This brings her to question Larry the hotel manager (Andy Thompson), who may look familiar to some viewers.

Thompson's guest-starring role as the curmudgeonly and sarcastic employee is a new addition to Season 2. He tells Misty that while their establishment doesn't offer cleanliness, cable, or Wi-Fi, they do provide a unique veil of privacy that protects their customers. Once Misty intimidates Larry with a plethora of sensitive information she stole from him, he tells her what he knows about Natalie. This leads Misty to Natalie's old hotel room where she realizes she was taken after finding a piece of the broken door.

Larry's humorous scene helps reunite the survivors while gifting the episode an essential moment of levity. You might even recognize Thompson from his other roles where he infuses the same dry sense of humor.

Andy Thompson has a history of playing school administrators

Fans of the wildly imaginative, futuristic comedy "Upload" on Amazon Prime Video may recognize Andy Thompson from his role as The Professor in Season 1. Here, he plays a similarly uptight character who also interjects moments of comic relief that temporarily alleviate the tense drama. In Episode 7, "Bring Your Dad to Work Day," he indecisively changes the weather seen through the windows, causing Nathan (Robbie Amell) to snap at him while he tries to come to terms with troubling news. In Season 2, The Professor is identified as Lionel Winters, giving Thompson a larger role in the series that will surely expand in Season 3.

Thompson also guest starred on ABC's family drama "A Million Little Things," where he brought the more serious Principal Taylor to life when dealing with disciplinary situations. This contrasts his other lively roles since he flexed his dramatic acting talents as the stern administrator. Additionally, he played a magical professor in Syfy's fantastical drama "The Magicians" in Season 5; Thompson was the sardonic Professor Frank seen in the time travel standout Episode 9, "Cello Squirrel Daffodil."

Thompson guest starred in a plethora of CW dramas

Andy Thompson had a series of colorful early roles, like Tony Daniel in The CW's "Arrow" where he met the wrong end of Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) bow. He also had parts in a variety of other CW dramas, including the 1930s filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille in Season 3, Episode 6 of the time-hopping series "Legends of Tomorrow" titled "The Helen Hunt." On the supercharged hit "The Flash," Thompson played Dr. Bruce Bonwit in Season 5, Episode 18 ("Godspeed"), who was a prominent scientist that was attacked by the episode's titular villain (Kindall Charters).

Thompson began his CW career on the highly successful drama "Supernatural" in Season 8, Episode 13 ("Everybody Hates Hitler"), where he played the resourceful librarian in an unforgettable, mystical story. On "Riverdale," he had a powerful and heartbreaking role as the funeral director in Season 4, Episode 1 titled "Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam," where the series paid tribute to the late Luke Perry, who played Archie's (KJ Apa) father Fred Andrews. Thompson even returned to the CW in 2020 with the revival of "Charmed" in Season 2, Episode 16, "The Enemy of My Frenemy," as the morgue technician.

Thompson has also been featured in a slew of bloody horror hits

Andy Thompson appears to be drawn to horror as he often frequents the genre in an abundance of exciting roles. On the film side, Thompson was Father Meadows in the grisly horror "Antlers" — which undoubtedly prepared him for the even more intense second season of "Yellowjackets." He was also in the horror comedy reboot series "Critters: A New Binge," in Season 1, Episode 3 titled "Party Time." Thompson was one of the many victims of the Critters' rampage as the impatient and unfortunate Ride Share Guy that met a bloody end from the ravenous monsters.

In addition to his gruff and unfriendly role in the chilling second season of "Yellowjackets," it seems he'll be sticking with the spooky drama. Thompson is set to play the Manager/Owner in the upcoming 10-episode "Goosebumps" TV series on Disney+. Based on his previous roles, it's safe to say he'll inject the same sense of humor and sarcasm to combat the frightening nature of the show with plenty of comic relief.
