The CSI: NY Couple Fans Absolutely Loathe
"CSI: NY" was relatively popular amongst audiences during its nine seasons on CBS (via Rotten Tomatoes). Throughout "CSI: NY," like many other crime series, the main team becomes incredibly close through the cases they have to handle and the amount of time they spend together. Most of the group, which has consisted of Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo), Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap), Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito), Don Flack (Eddie Cahill), and Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper) amongst others, go through quite a lot.
The trauma of the cases that the group works on has even been too much for some members to come back from, even with the help of their team. Aiden, for example, was ultimately let go during Season 2 for being too obsessed with a personal case involving a convicted rapist. After she was ultimately killed later in the season, it took a huge toll on the rest of the team who sought to capture her killer. It hit Danny more than the others, though, as they had shared a close bond. However, it wouldn't be Danny's last deep relationship on the team, as he would later develop the show's main romance.
In many crime shows like "CSI: NY," some members of the team almost always fall in love. Couples from other CBS series like "NCIS" are famous, like Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). However, with "CSI: NY," the show's main couple didn't sit well with many fans.
Danny and Lindsay annoy fans of CSI: NY
According to a recent Reddit thread, fans of "CSI: NY" didn't love the romantic relationship between Danny Messer and Lindsay Monroe. The two initially don't get off to the best start, but they slowly become friends and eventually lovers by the end of Season 3. U/fuzzypipe39 initiated the conversation by explaining that they can't stand Danny and Lindsay's relationship. "I watched all the CSIs as a kid, doing NY rewatch now. But Jesus freaking Christ, are Lindsay and Danny so annoying," they said. Then listing examples, they detailed how Lindsay has some pretty dated opinions on raising a child, and Danny proceeded to play with Lindsay's feelings on occasion and slept around a little.
Multiple fans shared these sentiments. U/happycharm noted that they always disliked Danny and weren't too fond of Lindsay's character arc either. "I hated Danny. He's a piece of s***. Lindsay is whatever, I dont care about her too much. Her weird storyline with feeling bad about killing that serial killer who was terrorizing her family was stupid," they explained. For u/MajesticVegetable202 it was relatively the same feelings. "I always really liked CSI: NY but always disliked Lindsay, and I never liked Danny with Lindsay, if that makes sense. It doesn't get better," they added.
Unfortunately for these fans who disapprove of Lindsay and Danny's relationship, the two still end up together at the end of the series. "CSI: NY" was canceled back in 2013 with several other CBS series (via The Hollywood Reporter).
