Greg Berlanti's Magical FBI Drama Deception Finds Its Lead

Jack Cutmore-Scott is heading to the FBI for Deception, a new drama from mega-producer Greg Berlanti.

Berlanti, executive producer of The CW's Arrow-verse as well as the network's new Archie comics adaptation Riverdale, is developing the pilot for NBC. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cutmore-Scott has signed on to play Cameron Black, a magician who turns to the FBI after a scandal destroys his career. Black works as the FBI's first consulting illusionist, helping them to solve their most difficult and confounding cases.

Cutmore-Scott's most notable role thus far was as the title character in the short-lived Fox sitcom Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, which was burned off after airing ten episodes in early 2016. He also had a minor role as Rufus, one of the candidates in the action-comedy hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Deception's pilot will be written by Chuck's Chris Fedak. Martin Gero (Blindspot), Sarah Schechter (Arrow), and David Nutter (Smallville) will executive produce alongside Fedak and Berlanti.

Deception is one of a number of pilots that Berlanti has in the works. He has a Black Lightning pilot at The CW, in addition to the mystery drama Searchers alongside The 100 creator Jason Rothenberg. Berlanti Productions also has a put-pilot commitment from ABC for the action-drama Criminal, with pilots for comedy Raised by Wolves and soap The Marquis also in the works at the alphabet network, according to Deadline.
