The Mandalorian Fans Are Sure This Pattern Will Repeat In Season 3
Free of the confines of the Skywalker saga and set between the Galactic Civil War and the First Order-Resistance War, "The Mandalorian" has boldly charted its own course in the "Star Wars" galaxy. It has focused predominantly on brand new characters, shown off planets fans have never seen, and developed a fanbase almost entirely its own. Not to mention the mysterious yet adorable Grogu has taken the world by storm, especially in toy aisles across the globe. Don't worry, though, "The Mandalorian" hasn't totally abandoned the roots of the franchise across its first two seasons.
While the minds behind it have done a great job making "The Mandalorian" and all that comes with it stand on their own, it's still very much a love letter to George Lucas' brainchild. Practically every episode contains Easter eggs and references to "Star Wars" history, be it as obvious as the reemergence of legacy characters like Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) or Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) or as subtle as Dave Filoni's hidden Akira Kurosawa figurine. Occasionally though, it features something more abstract, such as an idea or theme that runs from one generation of "Star Wars" to the next.
Concepts like family struggles, duty versus desire, and more reappear, time and time again, lending further credence to Lucas' famous quote about the poetics of "Star Wars." According to some fans of "The Mandalorian," Season 3's story could go in a direction that would honor this tradition by keeping an existing pattern alive.
Din Djarin is gonna lose Grogu again, isn't he?
Reddit user realEthnol posted a meme guessing that during Season 3 of "The Mandalorian," titular bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will once again lose Grogu. They likely came up with this theory by looking back at the first two seasons and "The Book of Boba Fett." For a brief time at the end of Season 1, Imperial forces took Grogu, only for our heroes to get him back. Come Season 2, Imperials would once again kidnap Grogu, this time during his meditation on Tython. Din and his allies would rescue him again before handing him off to Luke Skywalker for Jedi training. This didn't last long, seeing as they reunited on "The Book of Boba Fett."
"The Mandalorian" Season 3 won't reach Disney+ until early 2023, so for now, there's no way of knowing if the original poster and those who agree with them are correct in their theory. Din has lost track of his little green friend quite a lot already, so historically speaking, the odds are in their favor. Regardless of what happens with Din and Grogu, though, it sounds like fans have a lot to look forward to from the next batch of episodes. In an interview with Neelix (via Screen Rant), Pedro Pascal teased many new and familiar faces in addition to plenty of action and a strong story.
No matter how many times it happens, it's always emotional when Din Djarin and Grogu end up separated. Hopefully, it won't happen again during the third season of "The Mandalorian."
