The Improvised Ant-Man Scene That Fans Can't Help But Love
It's safe to say that Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, is likely on many fans' lists of the funniest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only is Scott incredibly witty and intelligent, but he also serves as part of the heart and soul of the Avengers along with Tom Holland's Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, often grounding heroes like Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) in what's truly right and important, as we see in "Captain America: Civil War" — not to mention, Scott is the crucial link in bringing back half the population of the entire MCU during the events of "Avengers: Endgame" after being trapped in the Quantum Realm.
As fans await the third "Ant-Man" movie, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," many are rewatching and looking back at their favorite scenes from 2015's "Ant-Man" and 2018's "Ant-Man and the Wasp," which first introduced us to Scott; Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), the original Ant-Man and creator of the technology that is infused in Scott's suit; and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank's daughter and the future Wasp.
While "Ant-Man and the Wasp" has its own tone distinct from many of the other films in the MCU, it earned praise from fans and critics alike upon its release (via Rotten Tomatoes). In creating that tone, it has been rumored that a lot of scenes were improvised by Rudd and others, with one in particular that some fans can't help but love.
Marvel fans love Scott's interaction with Jimmy Woo in Ant-Man and the Wasp
Redditor u/achilles-_-23 posted a supposedly improvised clip from "Ant-Man and the Wasp" of Scott and FBI Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park). In the clip, Jimmy nearly arrests Scott for breaking the rules of his house arrest after helping Captain America violate the Sokovia Accords during the events of "Captain America: Civil War." As Jimmy is leaving, he says, "I'll be seeing you again." Scott replies, "Where?" A whole awkward conversation then unfolds, leading Jimmy to hilariously ask Scott to dinner. Redditor u/formulavice noted that they would love to see "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" open with Jimmy and Scott actually getting dinner.
As far as if that scene is actually improvised or not, it's certainly likely, although it isn't officially confirmed. Rudd has been known to improvise plenty on set according to co-stars Michael Douglas and Judy Greer (via E! News). During a press conference for "Ant-Man and the Wasp," Douglas even claimed that "[Rudd] gave himself more funny lines," and Evangeline Lilly explained, "His best lines in the movie are not in the script," implying plenty of improvisation (via ComicBook.com).
