Riverdale Season 7 - What We Know So Far

The CW series "Riverdale" has been one of the channel's most popular series for a number of years now. Developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show is loosely based on the famous long-running "Archie" comics. However, the show has opted to go in a different direction than its source material, sometimes ending up in crazy places, and at other times simply not making any sense.

The show — which stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom — is currently in its sixth season. With a number of characters having developed powers such as mind-reading and invulnerability, the inhabitants of Riverdale find themselves in a fight against Percival Pickens (Chris O'Shea) who has nefarious intentions toward the town.

The show has been renewed for a seventh season; however, the renewal was bittersweet for "Riverdale" fans, as it was announced to be the show's last. Here's what we know so far about "Riverdale" Season 7.

The show will still get a full season order

The seventh season of "Riverdale" has been confirmed by Mark Pedowitz, the President of The CW, as being the show's last. Pedowitz also added that show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was happy with the decision, and said that he wanted the show to have "an appropriate send-off" and ensure that "it goes out the right way" (Per Deadline).

Pedowitz also added that the show's final season will have a midseason premiere and is not expected to have a shortened episode order. This suggests that the season will premiere sometime in January 2023, similar to Season 1, which premiered on January 26, and Season 5, which premiered on January 20. The comment about the season length also suggests Season 7 will have either 19 or 22 episodes, as has been the norm for the show since its second season (per IMDb).

Cast-wise, the show's quartet of main performers, namely KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Cole Sprouse, are all expected to return for the seventh season. At the CW's Upfronts presentation, Apa seemingly confirmed this by joining Pedowitz onstage and naming Sprouse, Mendes, and Reinhart (Deadline). In addition, longstanding members of the cast, such as Madelaine Petsch, Vanessa Morgan, Casey Cott, Madchen Amick, Charles Melton, Erinn Westbrook, and Drew Ray Tanner are also sure to return.

Plot details for the final season have yet to be announced. Where the show goes cannot be guessed from prior seasons, which have dealt with everything from serial killers, cults, and alternate universes, to gangsters, prison, the rum trade, and superpowers. However, wherever the final season ends up is sure to be entertaining.
