What Is The Song In The Second The Boys Season 3 Trailer?

The Boys are back, and they've never looked more diabolical. Prime Video recently dropped the second trailer for "The Boys" Season 3, which is set to debut on June 3. The satirical superhero series, based on the comic book of the same name, is one of the streaming service's most popular shows, with Season 2 receiving a whopping 89% uptick in viewers compared to Season 1 (via Insider). And from what we've gathered from the new, explosive trailer, it's fair to say that Season 3 is on track to be another hit for Prime Video.

The latest trailer opens with Homelander apologizing for falling in love with the Nazi "superhero" Stormfront (Aya Cash) in various televised interviews, trying to keep his cool. The new footage then cuts to Starlight (Erin Moriarty) worrying that Homelander, one of the most powerful heroes in the world, is losing his mind. As the chaos we've learned to expect from "The Boys" slowly unravels, we see Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) give superhero killer Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) a vial that, when injected, gives the recipient superpowers for 24 hours.

The action-packed trailer never lets up, showing the titular Boys plotting against the in-universe superheroes, blurring the lines between who the real heroes and villains are in the increasingly gray world. As familiar faces and new heroes, like Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), show up, we hear a fitting though forgotten old tune that calls out the not-so-altruistic people pulling the strings.

An introspective tune from the Beach Boys plays in the second The Boys Season 3 trailer

"Heroes and Villains" by the Beach Boys graces the latest trailer for the brand-new season of "The Boys." Released in 1967 on the album "Smiley Smile," the track reached No. 12 on the Billboard charts, though NPR suggests that the tune "seems to have been excised from the history books."

Over half a century later, the song has found a fitting home in the second trailer for Season 3 of "The Boys." As the trailer ramps up, the song kicks in with the lyrics "I've been in this town so long that back in the city/ I've been taken for a lost and gone" as we see Vought's headquarters, followed by Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) reuniting with his family. Season 3 of "The Boys" will see characters like Mother's Milk and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) striving for normalcy, despite the chaos of the heroic world numbing them down.

Though there are numerous interpretations of "Heroes and Villains," one dives deep into the core theme of "The Boys." As reported by Far Out in July 2021, Marilyn Wilson, ex-wife of singer Brian Wilson, said of the song, "'There are so many screwed-up people in the music industry. The good guys and the bad guys ... That's one thing Brian had in mind when they did 'Heroes and Villains.'"

Seeing as "The Boys" calls out the hypocrisy of the superhero business and how the "heroes," like Homelander, are no different from the villains they purport to stop, it's quite fitting that "Heroes and Villains" is featured in the latest trailer for the series.
