G. Callen's Best Moment In NCIS: Los Angeles Season 7
The world of police procedurals is often populated by characters who tend to focus on a particular area, be it a precinct, city, state, or country. "NCIS: Los Angeles" is a different beast. Though the OSP team of the "NCIS" spin-off is technically based in the City of Angels, they're actually a globetrotting special force that generally keeps things undercover, and as a result, has been known to carry out operations in various countries and continents. In particular, the team's Special Agent in Charge, G. Callen (Chris O'Donnell), is quite literally an international man of mystery, with a history of working with a whole bunch of three-letter agencies in various capacities.
Over the course of the show, Callen has made some pretty big mistakes, due to his highly convoluted personal history and family relations. However he's also had plenty of great moments, and the action hero-style character is always ready to deliver on the coolness front. Let's take a look at his best moment in "NCIS: Los Angeles" Season 7.
Callen goes rogue in Active Measures
G. Callen is a mysterious character, to say the least. However, he's stayed staunchly on the right side of the law ... right up until the premiere of "NCIS: Los Angeles" Season 7, in which he immediately goes rogue in a premeditated and shocking fashion. Here, Callen is a significantly darker and edgier figure than he's been so far, and his tensions with the rest of the team are so bad that when NCIS supervisor Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) confronts him, she actually tases him.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "NCIS: Los Angeles" creator Shane Brennan confirmed that the episode "Active Measures" is, indeed, the first time Callen has ever strayed from the lawful path in a serious way. "Callen's forced to do something that he's never done before, and that is break the law," Brennan said. "Now, someone said they break the law every week, but this is seriously break the law. And he does it, so he's a lawbreaker in this episode, and he does so out of desperation. And it's not just in the spur of the moment — it's a planned moment."
However, there's a method to Callen's mayhem. He's in a pretty rough place, because the season begins some time after the shocking Season 6 finale, which revealed that his father, Nikita Reznikov (Daniel J. Travanti), is still very much alive. His unauthorized off-the-grid actions here are a direct result of that, as Callen attempts to gather information on his dad, no matter what it takes. As such, the episode shows a whole new side of the character, as well as kicks off arguably the biggest overarching plot of the season in a highly dramatic fashion. Put all this together, and Callen's rogue ways in the season premiere can easily be considered to be his best moment in "NCIS: Los Angeles" Season 7.
