Peacemaker Confirms This Obscure Character Exists In The DCEU

Spoilers ahead for "Peacemaker" Episode 2, "Best Friends for Never"

While the future of the DCEU is unclear at the moment (although hopes are that "The Flash" solo movie will clear things up when it finally arrives later this year), that isn't stopping James Gunn from switching things up in the best way possible. With bona fides including "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The Suicide Squad" to his name, Gunn has proven he's got a lot of love for the misfits of the comic book world and will squeeze as many of them into a story in any way he can. Sometimes, it's brief on-screen cameos, like lining Suicide Squad members up with the likes of Calendar Man. Or, in the case of "Peacemaker," it's a meager but equally mind-blowing name drop to get fans grinning from ear to ear.

The HBO Max spin-off to Gunn's first dip in the DCEU pool is littered with many interesting Easter eggs that will catch the attention of any devoted fan, a lot of which come from Peacemaker (John Cena) himself. However, in between scandalous rumors of Aquaman having sex with fish or Superman getting involved in strange private activities, one character who isn't even from this same dimension as the titular antihero is mentioned by Peacemaker's teammate, John Economos (Steve Agee). While he may not have appeared in a live-action project before, the mere mention of this particular character confirms his existence in the DCEU, suggesting that might change in the future.

Bat-Mite gets a mention on Peacemaker

The one and only Bat-Mite gets a surprise shout-out on HBO Max's "Peacemaker." The mention occurs in Episode 2, "Best Friends For Never," after a risky escape from a Butterfly leaves Peacemaker in need of some medical attention. Thankfully, John is on hand to stitch him up while enduring abuse from the patriotic pinhead. The argument leads John to list everyone he'd rather be helping than Peacemaker. "I'd rather be with Harley Quinn than you. I'd rather be with the Weasel than you," John proclaims, before adding, "I'd rather be with f****** Bat-Mite than you." When Peacemaker asks who he's referring to, John describes him as a "two-foot-tall interdimensional imp that stans Batman."

This, of course, isn't something that John has pulled out of thin air (although that's the character's usual entrance). Bat-Mite first appeared in Detective Comics #267 in 1959 (via Comic Vine) and was a nuisance as soon as he arrived. Similar to dimensional jumper Mister Mxyzptlk, Bat-Mite is the number one fan of the Caped Crusader and has put the Dark Knight through the wringer numerous times for his amusement.

Until now, there has never been any mention of the character in live-action films, but, given The Flash's upcoming dimension-hopping adventure, this could be another Bat-character the heroic speedster may come across besides Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton's Batmen. Either that or Gunn could be mentioning him for his and our amusement yet again. We're betting on the latter.

See who else gets name-dropped when "Peacemaker" premieres its first three episodes on HBO Max on January 13.
