The Spider-Man: No Way Home Villain Theory Lighting Up TikTok

It's hard to think of a movie that has garnered as much hype as the upcoming "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in recent years. Not since the release of "Dark Knight Rises" has there been this much buzz around the final movie in a superhero trilogy. Fans have laboriously scoured promotional materials and trailers for any and all clues as to what might take place in the film. Even professional interviewers and late-night hosts have jumped aboard the hype train, prompting former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield to beg people to believe him when he denies the rumors suggesting his return to the role.

The latest trailer revealed not only that will Alfred Molina reprise his iconic role as Doctor Octopus, the robot-tentacled nemesis of Sam Raimi's 2004 masterpiece, "Spider-Man 2," but that he will be joined by Raimi's version of Green Goblin, reprised by Willem Dafoe. Versions of Sandman, Electro, and Lizard have also been confirmed.

With so much of the movie's surprises already dissected, it seems some fans are turning to wilder speculation about the details of "Spider-Man: No Way Home." One such theory hit TikTok today, generating massive attention and sparking debate as to its likelihood.

Fans are speculating about an unlikely Spider-Man team-up with his archvillains

A TikTok video posted by user @chrisromero072 displays a still from one of the "Spider-Man: No Way Home" trailers in which Tom Holland's Spidey faces off against Lizard and Electro. The picture has hand-drawn versions of Doc Ock and Green Goblin flying in alongside Spider-Man, implying that he has teamed up with them.

The theory that Spider-Man will team up with Doc Ock might have some truth to it. After all, Doc Ock was being pretty darn chummy with Peter in the most recent trailer after realizing it wasn't Tobey McGuire under that Stark Tech Spidey suit. On the other hand, we also get a brief shot of the metal-armed menace being blown out of a window by what looks like a Electro-related explosion, suggesting that the two of them aren't exactly friends.

But will Green Goblin be teaming up with the MCU Spider-Man? That seems less likely, first because the trailer has shown us far less information about his character than it has about Doc Ock's, but also because Dafoe's Green Goblin is driven insane by the same chemical that gives him his powers. Unlike Doc Ock, who is sometimes reasonable, Green Goblin is a pure agent of chaos.

Fans in the comments seem to agree, pointing out that Green Goblin, as a primary antagonist of the film, would likely never team up with any version of Spider-Man. But since we won't truly know for sure until the movie is out, December 17 can't come quickly enough!
