Ash Vs. Evil Dead Season 4: Will It Ever Return?

It's easy to see why horror fans are still clamoring for another season of "Ash vs. Evil Dead." After all, the series brought back one of horror's most formidable fighters: Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell). Maintaining the "Evil Dead" franchise's signature blend of humor and gore, the series gave genre devotees practically everything they wanted.

Set in modern-day Michigan, "Ash vs. Evil Dead" aimed to blend classic themes with new traditions. At the start of the series, Campbell's Ash Williams has left behind the past and is content with working at the local Value Stop store. That doesn't last for long though, as an unexpected turn of events forces Ash to once again fight deadites, the brutal demons intent on taking over the world.

However, Ash isn't alone this time. Throughout the series, he's joined on his mission by co-workers Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), while other newcomers to the franchise, including Lucy Lawless (via Observer), also joined "Ash vs. Evil Dead" over the course of its three-year run. All in all, the series' story put its characters through three seasons of weird and wonderful mayhem.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely that fans will get to see more from Ash and his sidekicks anytime soon.

The cabin door is never completely closed

It was announced in 2018 that "Ash vs. Evil Dead" would be ending with its Season 3 finale. The then-President of Programming at Starz, Carmi Zlotnik, addressed the series' ending (via The Hollywood Reporter), saying, "'Ash vs. Evil Dead' has taken audiences on a wild ride for three seasons thanks to the fantastic performances and creative efforts of Sam, Bruce, Rob, and the entire cast and crew."

Predictably, fans were not happy about saying goodbye to the show. In the wake of the series' demise, petitions were started and viewers were encouraged to spread fan support for the show's resurrection across social media (via Dread Central). However, it looks like Bruce Campbell may have already had the last word when it comes to "Ash vs. Evil Dead." The actor commented on Twitter about the future of the show and the character, tweeting, "Big props to fans for the effort, but I'm retired as Ash."

Despite Campbell's comment, some fans continue to hope that they haven't seen the last of "Ash vs. Evil Dead." Cast members Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo even kickstarted another round of fan speculation about the series' future while speaking to Chuck Load of Comics in 2020. "I think enough time has passed by," Santiago said, while DeLorenzo went even further, saying, "Well, I say, 'Never say never,' because the way things are going, I've been reading all these very terrifying things about our industry and just productions and things are just being shelved and whatnot, so I honestly feel like, you know, never say never."

Of course, the Starz show's cancellation doesn't mean that the "Evil Dead" franchise has come to an end. In fact, a new "Evil Dead" film is set to premiere on HBO Max in 2022 (via Collider).
