Sabrina's Kiernan Shipka Weighs In On The Harvey Vs. Nick Debate
Spoilers for up to season three of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ahead!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will see the titular witch go on one last supernatural adventure before the series is done for good. Netflix announced a while ago the series would end after Part 4, which is set to close out the year and debut on December 31, 2020.
The last time we saw the teenage witch at the end of season three, she managed to stop the apocalypse while using a fancy loophole to accept her fate as the ruler of Hell. She did this by bringing a second Sabrina into her reality. This "other" Sabrina takes over these devilish duties while "our" Sabrina gets to continue being a teenager on Earth. She's free to do all the things teenagers normally do — like try to get a date with the hottest dude in school. In classic teen drama fashion, she finds herself in a romantic triangle between her charming ex-boyfriend from season one, Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch) and her ex-boyfriend from the Academy of the Unseen Arts (and future host of Satan himself), Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood).
During a recent press event, Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka revealed where she stands on the whole "Harvey or Nick" debacle. As it turns out, Sabrina may not need a man at all.
Kiernan Shipka says she loves seeing Sabrina "trying to date"
Unlike other television characters, Sabrina Spellman actually starts her series in a relationship. She dates Harvey Kinkle throughout season one, but they eventually break up, and Harvey goes on to date her friend, Roz (Jaz Sinclair). Sabrina picks up a relationship with Nick in season two, but again, it isn't meant to last.
During the press event, Shipka was asked about Sabrina's journey and how she's torn between Harvey and Nick. As is the case with most romantic triangles, fans generally expect her to wind up with one of the two by the series' end. But if Shipka's response is anything to go off of, it sounds as though she thinks she doesn't necessarily need to settle down with either one at this point in time. When asked about Sabrina's romantic quandary, Shipka responded, "People always ask me, 'Is it Nick? Or is it Harvey?' And I'm like, 'Girl's 16, she should be dating.' Let's get her on Bumble; let's get her on Hinge. She would have the funniest Hinge. So, I'm happy for her. I love those episodes, and I kind of wanted to see more of that and that world. I love Sabrina trying to date; I think that's just so funny to me."
Sabrina's fought the forces of Hell, so you may assume dating would be a breeze. But in fact, Sabrina's still getting the hang of it. While Shipka seems to think Sabrina could use some time to discover herself, it's unclear if the series will follow that route or have her get back together with one of her exes. Considering the season four trailer shows her going up against the Eldritch Terrors, it's hard to imagine her having any time to date in this last batch of episodes, but we're sure she'll find a way. We'll just have to see which way the wind blows when Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4 comes out on Netflix on December 31, 2020.
