Tom Holland Shares The Spider-Man 3 News We've All Been Waiting For

Tom Holland's tenure as Spider-Man has been successful, but also something of a rollercoaster ride. After a magnificent debut in Captain America: Civil War, this iteration of Peter Parker starred in two solo movies (Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home) and two Avengers flicks (Infinity War and Endgame), to great effect. A split between Sony and Marvel Studios almost tore the hero away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019, but the studios were eventually able to reach an agreement and bring Spider-Man back to the MCU.

This was great news to fans, who remain eager to see the third solo outing of Holland's Spider-Man — but sadly, more bad news loomed on the horizon. Though all signs were pointing to the fact that Spider-Man 3 will blow us all away, those initial high spirits were soon dampened when it was announced that Sony and Marvel had delayed the film from July 16, 2021 to November 5, 2021 ... and then to December 17, 2021.

Fortunately, Spidey's latest MCU adventure seems to have finally cleared its worst hurdles. In fact, leading man Holland just shared the Spider-Man 3 news we've all been waiting for.

Spider-Man 3 has started shooting

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Holland posted an Instagram Story (saved and re-uploaded to ComicBook.com's Instagram) in which he revealed that filming Spider-Man 3 is a-go, and that he just landed on location. In the short clip, the actor — wearing a suitably red face mask, of course — reveals that he's in Atlanta, Georgia, and is about to start shooting the movie.

"Okay, so, we just landed in Atlanta," Holland excitedly tells his audience, before chuckling and dropping the big one: "It's time for Spider-Man 3. Let's go!"

This, of course, is excellent news. The information that has been trickling in about the movie so far has been pretty cool. We've learned that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will appear in Spider-Man 3, and that the movie will also feature the extremely shocking comeback of Jamie Foxx's Electro, who last faced Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This has caused some fans to speculate that Spider-Man 3 might actually be a live-action Spider-Verse, with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire joining Holland as alternate-universe Spider-Men.

Whether this is true remains to be seen, but at least fans can now be safe in the knowledge that the MCU's Spider-Man is on location, shooting what'll no doubt be his most wonderfully weird cinematic appearance yet. December 17, 2021 can't arrive fast enough.
