NCIS Season 24 Reveals What Happened To Several Tony & Ziva Characters
Contains spoilers for "NCIS" Season 24, Episode 1 — "Wayward Son"
"NCIS cast members may have thought that Leroy Jethro Gibbs' (Mark Harmon) Season 19 exit would kill the show, but here we are. "NCIS" is back with Season 24, and things have once again changed. Not only has Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) returned, but he actually lands the role of the new NCIS director after Gabriel LaRoche's (Seamus Dever) disastrous stint with the job. In fact, the only reason LaRoche got his brief shot was because Tony — who, it turns out, was the first-choice candidate to replace Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) — originally turned down the gig.
So, it seems that Tony really is sticking around. What's more, the show offers us some incredibly welcome Tony-adjacent updates on other characters from the Paramount+ spin-off show "NCIS: Tony & Ziva." Dialogue in "Wayward Son" reveals that Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and the couple's daughter Tali (Isla Gie) are also doing quite well. Both are currently located in Boston, where Ziva has a job at a language institute and Tali is in a boarding school. We're also filled in on the whereabouts of Boris Peskov (Maximilian Osinski), the hacker who designed the 9.4 program that was pivotal to the spin-off's events. As it turns out, he's now living in Marrakesh, Morocco.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva may have been canceled, but it's still part of the franchise
A particularly short-lived show in the NCIS franchise, "NCIS: Tony & Ziva" was canceled after only one season, which ultimately led to Tony's "NCIS" return. Since Director DiNozzo is now a regular and crucial part of the proceedings, it will be interesting to see whether Ziva and Tali will remain in Boston or if they find a way back to NCIS' main screen, as well.
It's a big fall season for "NCIS" fans on multiple fronts, at least when it comes to the welcome returns of classic characters. Apart from Tony's return to the "NCIS" fold, Mark Harmon's "NCIS: Origins" return is a big one. The franchise legend has expanded his narration duties to again play an on-screen role in Season 3. Future episodes of both shows will tell if there are further surprise returns in store, but even if that won't be the case, bringing both Weatherly and Harmon back in an on-screen capacity is definitely an interesting development — and a major win for the franchise.
