"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" trailer revealed small details that had tongues wagging. From the tributes to "Super Mario Odyssey" to theme callbacks, Mario's cosmic caper isn't short on fan service. This time, though, the threat of Bowser (Jack Black) is larger than ever, requiring Mario and Luigi to seek help from allies to save the galaxy from the evil Koopas.

Much like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" introduced Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) to set up a spin-off film, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" does the same with a few of its new characters. And indeed, one major addition has everyone talking about their undisputed "star" power.

Donald Glover wanted to be in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Despite middling reviews, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" blew everyone away at the box office, making over $1.36 billion from a $100 million budget. More than that, it captured the imaginations of everybody who watched it. So much so that other actors put out feelers to be a part of the upcoming sequel, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie."

One of these was Donald Glover, who voices Yoshi. According to Jack Black, Glover pushed hard for the role. "It's kind of a cool thing," Black told Extra TV. "We got lucky that we got Brie [Larson] ... And also Donald, who campaigned for the role. He told his agent, 'Call Chris Meledandri [CEO of Illumination]. Tell him I really want to be Yoshi, I'd love to be in the new "Super Mario Bros.,"' because he loves it, and he loves that universe."

Of course, Glover and Larson aren't the only new additions to the cast. Check out the video above to learn about every new character in "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie."
