Netflix's Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Season 3 - What We Know So Far

Praise you know who, witches. A spooky new season of Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is headed this way.

After months of anticipation and speculation, Netflix has finally made Sabrina Spellman's return to the land of the streaming official – which means fans of the series should start practicing their incantations and stocking up on black candles in preparation for season 3.

Based on the popular Archie Horror comic books of the same name, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows the travails of the half-mortal, half-witch teen Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) as she tries to balance the increasingly disparate aspects of her life. Over its first two seasons, the series tackled heady topics like religious freedom, gender equality, sexual identity, and even fate itself. It's done so with a singularly silly mix of savvy teen drama and gothic supernatural horror – a mix that's made this unholy version of the Sabrina Spellman saga one of the more binge-worthy originals Netflix has ever released – and there's little doubt that will change on the show's upcoming run of episodes.

Here's everything we know so far about season 3 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

What's the release date for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3?

Starring Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka (alongside a handful of familiar faces young and old), the first season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina made quite the splash when it had its streaming premiere back in October 2018, with viewers devouring the series' pitch-black take on the familiar material. (As a reminder, the Sabrina Spellman tale already played out on television prior to Chilling Adventures, in the twee '90s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch.) Netflix followed that premiere with the surprise drop of a holiday-themed Sabrina episode in December 2018. So successful was that initial run of episodes that Netflix ordered two additional seasons of Sabrina before season 2 hit the streaming platform in April 2019.

Production on those seasons has been steady throughout 2019, with Shipka recently setting the internet ablaze with a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina set pic that depicted her teenage witch caked in blood, and featured the caption, "when will #caos drop????" That hint came on November 21, and at Argentina Comic-Con on December 7, Netflix made things official by releasing a cryptic teaser for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3 during the show's panel. The streamer also confirmed the release date for the third season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: January 24, 2020.

What's the plot of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3?

The first teaser for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3 was cryptic and incredibly short, offering little more than a shot of Sabrina standing in a cloud of smoke, wearing a hooded red cape, with a creepy voice in the background stating, "Welcome to Hell." Obviously, the teaser wasn't meant to offer a lot of info about what's going to happen on the upcoming season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, except that Sabrina will presumably be venturing into the land of fire and brimstone at some point.

Thankfully, Netflix dropped a full-length trailer for the new season in January 2020, and provided a logline for the new narrative: "Love and loyalty are pushed to their limits as Sabrina navigates a sinister new normal — with the help of Greendale's bravest allies." As the trailer shows us, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3 sees Sabrina dealing with the aftermath of season 2: she struck down Lucifer, who entered the body of Sabrina's boyfriend, Nick Scratch (Gavin Leatherwood). This time around, Nick's burning up in Hell while Madam Satan (Michelle Gomez) keeps a careful eye on him. Alongside her best pals Harvey (Ross Lynch), Rosalind (Jaz Sinclair), and Theo (Lachlan Watson) — who have named themselves the "Fright Club" — Sabrina aims to free Nick from his fiery prison and return him to Earth.

But with Hell's equilibrium thrown off balance now that the Dark Lord no longer rules, both Heaven and the human realm are out of whack. Sabrina must rise and become Queen of Hell — all while battling another person vying for leadership, the dashing Prince of Hell Caliban, and protecting her coven from a pagan cult roaming around Greendale.

Who's in the cast of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3?

Now that we have some idea about what's ahead on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3, it's a bit easier to imagine who will be aiding the increasingly powerful young witch in her daring endeavors. In case it wasn't entirely obvious, Kiernan Shipka will indeed be stepping back into the role of Sabrina. From the looks of things, there's not going to be much of a shake-up amongst the series' regular supporting cast for the upcoming season either — which means that Ross Lynch (Harvey), Jaz Sinclair (Rosalind), and Lachlan Watson (Theo) will all be back in their roles as Sabrina's besties and members of the aforementioned "Fright Club."

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans can rest assured knowing that Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) will be back to play Sabrina's aunts Hilda and Zelda respectively, with Chance Perdomo once again filling out the Spellman family unit as cousin Ambrose. As far as key supporting players go, Michelle Gomez will be back as Mrs. Wardwell (a.k.a. Madame Satan), as will Gavin Leatherwood's Nick Scratch, for obvious reasons.

In an odd turn of events, Netflix has yet to announce who will be playing the season's new villain Caliban, but you can bet that whatever unholy action he's about unfold on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3, the Weird Sisters — Prudence (Tati Gabrielle), Agatha (Adeline Rudolph), and Dorcas (Abigail Cowen) — will feature prominently.  It's a safe bet that Richard Coyle's dubious Father Blackwood will have a hand in those matters as well. And while there will surely be the usual presence of witches, warlocks, and demons at play, we're betting most of the new faces coming to the Greendale area for season 3 will be from that nefarious carnival of pagans promised in the synopsis. Just what havoc the carny crew will rain down on Sabrina and co. remains to be seen.

And unseen it shall remain until Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3 hits Netflix on January 24, 2020.
