Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Teaser Trailer Offers First Taste Of The Spooky Series

If you've ever watched Riverdale and thought that the teen drama series was missing something spicy — like sprinklings of Satanism, supernatural powers, witchcraft, and the occult — then we've got just the thing to satisfy your oddly specific craving: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Netflix just dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series, which stars Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka as the sweet-looking but clearly sinister teenage witch Sabrina Spellman.

In a word, the first-look footage is creepy — and it certainly lives up to the chilling nature of its title, what with the blood red candles decorating Sabrina's birthday cake, the slowed down rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" playing in the background, and actual Baphomet sitting across from her at the table while her family and fellow witches look on at the freaky festivities.

Check it out in full above.

Described as a "dark coming-of-age story" that follows Sabrina as she grapples with her half-human, half-sorceress identity and tries to decide whether she should use her powers for good or to do the devil's dirty work, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is also a companion series to Riverdale, adapted from the Archie Comics stories by Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

It's plain to see that Chilling Adventures will carry a much darker tone than Riverdale, which tends to lean more into the Pretty Little Liars style of young adult soap opera than it does step into bonafide thriller territory, but it'll be interesting to see how the new show differentiates itself from Riverdale in terms of story structure, characterization, and even dialogue.

Reactions to the teaser trailer for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have been largely positive — "The cinematography looks sick. So hyped to see this!" one YouTube commenter wrote, "Kiernan looks so good as Sabrina. This trailer was amazing! And it releases just in time for Halloween!" said another — but a handful of people are already worried that the series might not be all that great given that it features the same executive producers as Riverdale

"Please be better than Riverdale please," YouTube user Daniel Nicks typed in the comments section of the teaser. Aj Lee followed up, "PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE RIVERDALE," while user NumShei admitted, "I am kind of afraid [since] Riverdale is such a bad show."

Fans can find out for sure whether Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be ultra cool or a total disaster when the series hits Netflix on October 26
