Black Mirror: How Many Episodes Are In Season 6?

It's been four long years since fans of Charlie Booker's science fiction series have had the opportunity to stare into the "Black Mirror." As Booker himself noted, given how bleak the show can often be, maybe it's for the best that it took a hiatus while the world was going through such a dark period over the last few years. Still, fans are undoubtedly happy to see the long-running anthology series return now that things are a bit more stable.

Furthermore, the new episodes seem to be going especially big this time around. Season 6 of "Black Mirror" features more big stars than ever before, with Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Annie Murphy, Salma Hayek, Kate Mara, Rory Culkin, Zazie Beetz, and Michael Cera all set to appear. Meanwhile, the new season also promises to feature the series' first pure horror episode, with "Demon '79" being labeled as a "Red Mirror" episode rather than the mainline, dark science fiction label.

Either way, the upcoming season of "Black Mirror" is officially set to feature five episodes, all of which will be available for fans of the series to stream on June 15, 2023.

From one unlucky viewer's living room to the void of space

The "Black Mirror" Season 6 trailer runs the gamut of concepts for the series more than perhaps any season that has come before it. While the first episode, "Joan Is Awful," focuses on a woman named Joan (Annie Murphy) who suddenly finds there's a streaming series based on her life, the follow-up looks to be a true crime style story, not dissimilar to Netflix's own bevy of true crime content.

Season 6 of "Black Mirror" also looks to be the series' most meta one yet, with an app called Streamberry being introduced in the trailer that features the same layout and start-up noise as Netflix itself. Still, the space-based episode, "Beyond the Sea," looks to be the series' most star-studded outing yet.

That leaves an episode that focuses on the public's obsession with celebrities in "Mazey Day," and perhaps most excitingly, the aforementioned season closer, "Demon '79." As we pointed out above, Netflix made a point of shifting to "Red Mirror" for the season closer, and that could indicate that the streamer is considering a full-on horror spin-off. Whether it will actually take off or not, however, might depend on how well-received that particular episode is.
