Logan Producer Discusses Possibility Of Wolverine/Deadpool Team-Up Movie

Those hoping to see Wolverine and Deadpool on the silver screen in the future may want to avert their eyes and cover their ears. Logan producer Simon Kinberg has seemingly dashed the dreams of fans — including Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds himself — who have had their fingers crossed for such a team-up movie.

After Reynolds revealed that he still wants to partner up with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman for a buddy mutant movie, Kinberg relayed to Variety that he feels the character's journey ended with Logan, and that Jackman's iteration of the famous X-Men universe hero probably won't be seen again.

"I know that's something that Ryan [Reynolds] has been harassing Hugh Jackman about for a long time. But I produced Logan and I think we all felt like that was a really fitting end for that character," Kinberg stated. "So is there a chance? There's always a chance I suppose, but I think we felt like that was the best goodbye for Hugh as Wolverine."

For Reynolds' part, he said he understands that the chances of getting Jackman to agree to such a project are slim to none, but that hasn't kept him from his musings. "I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there's no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He's just the best," gushed Reynolds. "I already miss him as Logan, so I'm one of those guys that whenever I see him, I'm like, 'Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We'll do it together. It'll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,' and it's always just me saying it."

Jackman recently addressed Reynolds' desire to get Deadpool and Wolverine together, joking that the Merc with a Mouth actor was coming across a little desperate. "I might just have a little message for Ryan. I love you, man. I love Deadpool. I can't wait to see the movie [Deadpool 2]. You're one of my best friends. Blake [Lively, Reynolds' wife], the fam, the whole thing," laughed Jackman. "But back it up a little. Play a little hard to get. It's too much; it's not sexy."

While it doesn't appear likely that a Wolverine/Deadpool collaboration between Jackman and Reynolds is a possibility, there stands a chance that the film could happen with a different actor taking on Jackman's role. The Aussie actor previously gave his blessing for filmmakers to one day resurrect Wolverine, with the only stipulation being that he doesn't play the character. That ties into Kinberg's comments here about Logan being the best conclusion specifically for Jackman's Wolverine. So who knows? Perhaps the mash-up movie won't be a total pipe dream after all.
