What Chris Hemsworth Has Been Up To During His Break From Acting

Chris Hemsworth has become one of the world's most well-known actors over the last decade. From his many stints in the MCU as Thor to other pivotal action roles in films like "Extraction" and "Bad Times at the El Royale," Hemsworth has become a household name through his many noteworthy performances.

However, the actor has said that he's going to be stepping back from Hollywood for a bit following the revelation during the Disney+ series "Limitless" that he is genetically predisposed to Alzheimer's and, as such, may not have as much time left as he once thought he would.

Though Hemsworth has gone out of his way not to overdramatize this discovery, he has said that he wants to put more of a focus on spending time with his family by taking a break from major film and TV projects for an undefined period. With that in mind, from accepting that he will soon be 40 to catching up with the sports activities he loves, here's what Hemsworth has been getting up to since making his big announcement.

Hemsworth has stayed pretty busy despite stepping back from work

Though Chris Hemsworth had three acting credits in 2022 alone, he only has four upcoming credits at the moment through to 2026, meaning that he seems to be as good as his word when he said he's taking a break, despite playing one of the highest-profile members of the MCU and being a part of several other franchises.

Though we're only a few months into 2023 at the time of writing, Hemsworth hasn't slowed down one bit in his drive to make the most out of life. In response to a tweet from People about celebrities who would be hitting the big 40 this year, Hemsworth tweeted out a wryly sarcastic "Thanks for the reminder."

Also, just because Hemsworth is taking a break from major projects, that doesn't mean he's not still hanging out with other celebrities from time to time. The actor tweeted out a fun video where he traded his Thor's hammer for one of Ed Sheeran's guitars before playing a few licks on his new instrument.

Another thing that has been keeping Hemsworth busy has been his love of sports. Refocusing his efforts on CentrFit to help people keep up a healthy body and mind, the actor tweeted images of him surfing, riding dirt bikes with his kids, and watching a professional soccer game, citing the importance of physical activity in his life.

He is focusing on family fun and physical fitness

Doubling down on his recommitment to staying active and spending more time with his family, Chris Hemsworth shared on Instagram that he's been teaching his kids to snowboard and is bowled over by how quickly they're progressing. He cited the moment as "both an epic proud parent moment and a super depressing realization that I suck and they rule."

Hemsworth also shared a video on Instagram of him meditating underwater. This is another activity he's begun taking on in service of keeping his mind and body healthy. Though his children were adamant about swimming in front of the camera while he filmed, as kids are wont to do, Hemsworth maintains his focus more or less throughout the video.

All the same, even though he's dialing things back, Hemsworth does still have a couple of projects coming down the pipeline. Most notably, the sequel to his 2020 Netflix action thriller, "Extraction," is on the way this summer and is currently in post-production.

Hemsworth is set to appear in Extraction 2 and Furiosa

On top of "Extraction 2," Chris Hemsworth also has a couple of other high-profile projects coming down the line. The actor will be taking part in the prequel to the action megahit "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Furiosa," which will have Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the titular role from Charlize Theron.

For fans of the always-popular MCU, though, they're going to have to wait until at least 2026 to see more of their favorite Thunder God. Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Thor in "Avengers: Secret Wars," the next title to share the full-on "Avengers" title after the upcoming "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty."

Either way, despite the fact that Hemsworth is changing his focus to the things most important to him, fans of the actor can still look forward to a few major projects coming that will feature him in a prominent role. Until then, though, they'll have to keep an eye on his social media accounts to see what the performer is up to.
