The Intense Physical Training Katrina Law Had To Undertake For NCIS

"NCIS" has returned with its 20th season. Its premiere crossover event with "NCIS: Hawai'i" is filled with intense action as the Major Case Response Team tries to protect Alden Parker (Gary Cole) while locating and apprehending the man responsible for his framing. The end of the Season 20 premiere even leads to a shootout between the team and followers of 'The Raven,' who is revealed to be Herman Maxwell (Michael Weston), the man they were trying to protect in the first place.

The current team, which consists of Parker, Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Jessica Knight (Katrina Law), Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover), and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), stresses that they are a family during the Season 20 premiere, supporting each other and doing everything they can to protect one of their own. Jessica is also an advocate for this and even has a close relationship developing with Jimmy. Law first appeared as Jessica during Season 18 after she briefly helped the Major Case Response Team when her entire team was killed during "Blown Away." She then quickly became a regular during Season 19.

However, "NCIS" certainly isn't the first crime series that Law has been part of in her career. Law is arguably best known for her role as Nyssa Al Ghul in "Arrow" and also appeared on "Hawaii Five-0" and "Magnum P.I." (via IMDb). However, she has explained that "NCIS" required intense physical training on a different level.

Katrina Law has to workout in between scenes for NCIS

While speaking on "NCIS" in a recent interview with Starry Mag, Katrina Law was asked about her training regimen for the show, as she has previously taken roles that require a certain level of physical ability. Law explained that the long filming schedule for "NCIS" means that finding time to train is difficult. At first, she returned to a training routine she developed while playing Mira during 2010's "Spartacus" series. "Because of long hours and workload, I had to go back to my 'Spartacus' workout habits. I usually wake up at 4 am, drive to a gym close to work, start my workout at 5 am, and then I am ready to sit in the makeup chair by 6 am," she said.

However, Law explained that she has additionally developed a routine with her trainer, which has her doing workouts in-between scenes. "I also asked my trainer to design workouts that could be done in my trailer in between scenes, lots of dumbbells and bands involved, and this method has been working out fabulously," she noted. Other prior cast members on "NCIS," like actress Cote de Pablo have also pointed out the training demands before, noting that a fight scene can take up to three hours to shoot.

We will likely see more action from Jessica Knight, and Brian Dietzen shares what to expect from Season 20 between Jimmy Palmer and Jessica.
