New Black Lightning Trailer Promises The Return Of A Hero

Black Lightning is preparing to strike at last.

The CW has released another short teaser for its upcoming Black Lightning superhero series in the leadup to its January premiere, and it shows the title character, Jefferson Pierce, suiting up to fight another day after years spent in retirement.

It's not as substantial as the first look trailer for the series that was released months ago, but it does offer some new glimpses of Pierce's electrical powers in action, as well as his supportive family.

In addition to Cress Williams in the title role, Black Lightning also stars Christine Adams and Marvin Jones III. Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain will star as Pierce's daughters, Anissa and Jennifer, who in the world of the comics eventually become the superheroes Thunder and Lightning.

As of now, Black Lightning is still set to stand apart from the Arrowverse continuity, and have nothing to do with the shared universe that includes Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash

That may be subject to change, however, and in light of the success of those shows' truly fantastic four-part "Crisis on Earth-X" crossover (as well as all their other connections over the years), we've got our fingers crossed that Black Lightning and his allies will make their way into the broader league of DC's superfriends eventually.

Black Lightning will launch on the CW on Tuesday, January 6. Check out the trailer for the new series above.
