Netflix's Cobra Kai Season 5 Trailer Has Fans Hyped For This Dream Team-Up

Season 5 of Netflix's "Cobra Kai" is slated to premiere in its entirety on September 9th. Recently, in the build-up to its release, Netflix shared a series of images including a first look at the return of Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) who fans of the "Karate Kid" franchise will remember as one of the villains in "The Karate Kid Part III."

About a week later, on August 16, Netflix premiered a lengthy trailer for "Cobra Kai" Season 5. Immediately, this new trailer emphasizes that the season's core conflict is between the Cobra Kai karate dojo, now led by Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), and the San Fernando Valley karate instructors he usurped. As teased in the final moments of Season 4 and reiterated at the trailer's start, Miyagi-Do sensei Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) now has some help from Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto), the "Karate Kid Part II" villain who allied himself with Daniel in "Cobra Kai" Season 3.

On the other side of the equation, Terry Silver hires a team of instructors to help expand the Cobra Kai dojo's reach. This all ultimately leads to a team-up between two previously unassociated characters that has "Cobra Kai" fans pumped.

Cobra Kai fans love the team-up between Johnny and Chozen

Near the end of the latest "Cobra Kai" Season 5 trailer, former sensei Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Chozen Toguchi enter into a Cobra Kai dojo together, and its sensei — one of Terry Silver's new personnel — mistakes them for prospective students. Johnny quips that they're not there to learn, but to teach him a lesson. While Netflix is saving the ensuing fight for the season's premiere, a shot follows of Johnny and Chozen raising their fists next to one another, ready for battle. After viewing this scene, numerous commenters online shared their enthusiasm for Johnny and Chozen's team-up.

YouTube user Ava Adams, for example, wrote, "It's very cool that Johnny and Chozen teamed up. The first two Antagonist of the Karate Kid series!" Meanwhile, a commenter with the username noahmroma 2814 simply shared their excitement about the team-up and received more than 1,000 likes.

Meanwhile, in a Reddit thread about the trailer, user KarateKid917 wrote, "Johnny and Chozen fighting...TOGETHER? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!" to the tune of more than 70 upvotes.

In an interview with The Seattle Times, Toguchi described Chozen as a man with a singular focus. "I think Chozen's sole purpose in life is to find redemption and get back his honor," he said. Chozen's team-up with Johnny, then, may well be another step in his quest for redemption.
