The Odd Parks And Recreation Duo That Fans Can't Get Enough Of

"Parks and Recreation" is filled to the brim with memorable, unique characters who, despite their differences, somehow end up close to one another. While all the leading "Parks and Recreation" characters may not be likable, some, like Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), don't shy away from maturing, growing, and forming unlikely connections. As fans of the show know, the creatives behind the series managed to successfully pair Ron up with some non-obvious characters, leading to some wonderfully unexpected "Parks and Recreation" friendships

The staunch, government-hating Ron is best known for serving as a mentor to the cynical and stereotypical April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza). He also takes goofy Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) under his wing, and even has lots of smaller unexpected connections throughout the series, such as when he uses his libertarian bona fides to help a fourth grader write her government report in the Season 3 episode "Road Trip."

At the heart of "Parks and Recreation" is a community of people coming together in the strangest of ways but in the fictional town of Pawnee, there's one odd couple, in particular, that fans just can't get enough of.

Parks and Recreation fans love Ron and Typhoon

In a post with over 20,000 upvotes on the "Parks and Recreation" fan subreddit, user u/zimbambebg shared a gif of the time Ron Swanson became acquaintances with Typhoon (Rodney To), Pawnee's posh hairstylist extraordinaire. Donna (Retta) introduces Ron to Typhoon after Ron's stoic old barber passes away and though he's initially put off by Typhoon, the two hit it off after their mutual hatred for Europe and bikes surfaces.

"It's a great scene because at first glance, you think it's going to be a mess but they immediately find common ground and the little knowing smile from Donna at the end says it all," a user wrote. Redditor u/CoupwalObiWan echoed a similar sentiment, praising Donna for having the foresight to bring the two unlikely characters together. And u/AlexShez went on to say how this scene eventually led to Ron being an important part of Typhoon's life. "And then Ron is Best Man to Typhoon & Craig's wedding because he is a friend and ally to all people ... Except Europeans," wrote the user.

Ron and Typhoon's relationship is the perfect example of the character evolving and breaking out of his shell, interacting with those he originally had a negative impression of. While speaking with IGN in 2015, Nick Offerman revealed that he occasionally asked the writers to put Ron in wacky situations. However, they told him: "'No, it's important that these characters, if they are going to undergo a change, they're going to earn it through a story.'"
