Why The She-Hulk Trailers Are Making It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Fans Lose It

On May 17, Disney+ released its first trailer for the upcoming Marvel Studios series "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," giving viewers their first proper look at Tatiana Maslany in its lead role. In the wake of the trailer's premiere, fan reactions varied wildly, particularly concerning lead character Jennifer Walters' She-Hulk transformation.

A number of users online, for example, debated the quality of the CGI used to create the She-Hulk character, with many criticizing it as unrealistic. Some even went so far as to unflatteringly compare She-Hulk's appearance to Princess Fiona from the "Shrek" movies. In response to some of this widespread discussion, VFX artist Sean Ruecroft — whose social accounts are now deleted — claimed, as quoted by CultureCrave, that studio notes at one point requested that She-Hulk's size be reduced during her development, which itself sparked additional controversy.

While much of this discourse is markedly negative, some fans of the long-running sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" had an altogether neutral, amused take on She-Hulk's brand new live-action appearance.

It's Always Sunny fans think that She-Hulk looks like Dee

Following the premiere of the first "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" trailer, user Mysterious-Expert-43 shared a cropped screencap of She-Hulk to the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" subreddit and titled the thread, "She hulk looks like one of dees characters." This post was upvoted more than 8000 times. In response, the majority of commenters reworded quotes from the show to reference Marvel lore, building out the idea of Dee becoming She-Hulk.

Dee is, of course, one of the five central characters on "It's Always Sunny," portrayed by Kaitlin Olson. In an interview with Elle, Olson described her character as a subversion of a typical woman in a sitcom, hence the notion that she might paint herself green and pose like a superhero resonating with "It's Always Sunny" fans.

As it turns out, "She-Hulk" and "It's Always Sunny" share personnel: namely, director and producer Kat Coiro (via Deadline). While this probably doesn't mean that "She-Hulk" will consist of Jennifer Walters concocting ill-advised schemes and other sorts of mischief as Dee might on a typical episode of "It's Always Sunny," the seemingly comedic tone of "She-Hulk" may well give "It's Always Sunny" fans more to talk about come its August 17 premiere.
