Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson Join Amazon's Good Omens

Amazon is filling out the cast for their upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens. According to Entertainment Weekly, Miranda Richardson, Jack Whitehall, and Michael McKean have joined David Tennant and Michael Sheen in the six-episode series.

Good Omens is a dark comedy about the preparations for the quickly impending apocalypse, which an angel (Sheen) and a demon (Tennant), happy with their lives on Earth, team up to stop. The series will be set in 2018, the same year which it will debut.

Richardson leads the new cast members as Madame Tracy, "the psychic medium and part-time courtesan who provides a helping hand to the pair as they try to save the world from Armageddon." Richardson is a two-time Academy Award nominee for Tom and Viv and Damage; she is also known for The Lost Prince, Merlin, The Big Brass Ring, Fatherland, Enchanted April, and the Harry Potter franchise.

Whitehall is set to play Newt, who Amazon describes as "an unfulfilled wages clerk turned witch-hunter." The actor is best known for the TV series Fresh Meat and Bad Education, although he has also had some experience as a talk show host on shows like A League of Their Own and Backchat.

McKean, meanwhile, is set to play Sergeant Shadewell, "the leader of the witch-findeer army who sends [Newt] on his mission." McKean, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, recently appeared in the HBO film All the Way before landing a lead role on Better Call Saul, a role which has earned him Emmy buzz. (For which he was unfortunately snubbed.)

"I'm thriller to join this amazing cast and creative team," McKean said in a statement about the series. "I can't think of anyone I'd rather enjoy Armageddon with than Gaiman, Pratchett, [director Douglas Mackinnon], and company."

Adria Arjona, Nina Sosanya, Ned Dennehy, and Ariyon Bakare are also set to star in Good Omens. While we wait for the series to premiere, see some of the shows you have to look forward to this year.
