This Is Where Love Takes Flight Was Actually Filmed

Since 1951, Hallmark has offered audiences approximately 250 Hall of Fame movies, which have garnered an impressive 80 Emmy Awards. From romantic comedies to heartwarming holiday tales, there's a Hall of Fame film for everyone, including aviation enthusiasts.

In 2019, Hallmark released the Hall of Fame installment "Love Takes Flight," starring Nikki DeLoach as Dr. Lizzie Beauman, a Type A single mom and hospital administrator, and Jeff Hephner as adventurous EMS pilot Charley Allen. The two couldn't be more different, but Charley works to break Lizzie out of her shell, even taking her on a scenic helicopter excursion.

"Love Takes Flight" is a charming story about finding love and friendship in unlikely places. As Lizzie and Charley form a bond, his widowed father Walter (Tom Thon) rediscovers joy thanks to Lizzie's daughter Quinn (Skylar Olivia Flanagan).

As the four reconnect over the good things in life, they're surrounded by stunning backdrops of glistening rivers, vast green fields and beachside views. Many avid Hallmark watchers might assume "Love Takes Flight" was filmed in Canada like the majority of the channel's other projects, including 2021's "Chasing Waterfalls," but this is one of the exceptions.

Love Takes Flight was filmed in Savannah, Georgia

Leading lady DeLoach is no stranger to the Hallmark Channel, having starred in 2020's "Cranberry Christmas" and "Sweet Autumn," 2018's "Reunited at Christmas" and 2016's "A Dream of Christmas," all of which were filmed in Canada (via IMDB). Therefore, when DeLoach was cast for "Love Takes Flight," she was once again ready and willing to head north. However, she was pleasantly surprised to learn that she'd be closer to home.

Production for "Love Takes Flight" took place entirely in Savannah, Georgia, a location that worked out extremely well for DeLoach. She shared in an interview with Country Living that her childhood home is only 90 minutes from town. "My family still lives there, they all live on a farm [in Blackshear, Georgia]," she said. "I really got in some family time, which was amazing. Absolutely amazing."

DeLoach has many fond memories of her Georgia upbringing, some of which she highlighted in an interview with Parade. "Riding four-wheelers, oyster roasts, playing basketball and softball, all the family time...," she said. "I could go on and on. Blackshear, Georgia is truly a special place."

Throughout "Love Takes Flight," several well-known Savannah spots are featured, including the Historic Landmark District, which features outdoor spaces, museums, restaurants and 18th-century homes, and Wormsloe Historic Site, which was once owned by carpenter Noble Jones.
