The Greatest Sight Gag Vanessa Ray Ever Witnessed Behind The Scenes On Blue Bloods

You may not realize it, but the CBS crime drama "Blue Bloods" has been on the air for a very long time. The series, which follows the Reagan family in their various endeavors with the NYPD and New York Department of Justice, actually premiered way back in 2010. And once the "Blue Bloods" Season 12 finale runs later this year, it will have sent a whopping 254 episodes to the airwaves, with more likely on the way.

As the central cast of "Blue Bloods" has remained more or less intact since its pilot episode, the Reagans have come to feel as much an actual family as those of the show's steadfast viewers. Though a few new faces have joined the Reagan clan over the years, it seems the cast of "Blue Bloods" has gotten pretty close in real life too. That friendly vibe has no doubt added a level of authenticity to the beloved Reagan family dinner scenes. Apparently, the fun regularly spills over into the real world as well. And according to "Blue Bloods" star Vanessa Ray, who portrays Eddie Janko-Reagan on the show, it even led to the greatest behind-the-scenes sight gag she's ever seen.

Tom Selleck pulled a classic gag behind the scenes

In an interview with The Nerds of Color, Vanessa Ray was asked which "Blue Bloods" castmate makes her laugh the most, with the actor first responding, "Okay, usually it's Donnie [Wahlberg] who makes me laugh the most. But Will [Estes] is, to me, the funniest person I've ever met, I laugh the most with him..."

However, she went on to detail an absolutely classic prank "Blue Bloods" headliner Tom Selleck pulled on Bridget Moynahan. Ray explained, "So Bridget Moynahan is directing this episode and she is flawless, freaking amazing. She's such a great director. ... But one time she came in wearing a leopard print sweater and Tom [Selleck] really got a kick out of it. So unbeknownst to all of us, she bought him that sweater in his size."

According to Ray, Selleck promptly added the sweater to his "Blue Bloods" wardrobe, along with a hilarious addition. "So he came to set, for when she's directing family dinner, and he had two things. He had a leopard print sweater on and he had a mask with his face on it. So it was a Tom Selleck mask with a Tom Selleck mustache on top of Tom Selleck's face. It was like a drop the mic moment. ... It was the greatest thing, the greatest sight gag I'd ever seen in my life. It was so good."

Sadly, there are no publicly available shots of Selleck in that get-up. But his "Blue Bloods" family clearly got a major kick out of the gag.
