Fans Are Comparing This Thor: Love & Thunder Teaser Scene To Another Marvel Moment
At long last, the highly anticipated Marvel blockbuster film "Thor: Love and Thunder" finally released its first teaser trailer on April 18. Under the direction of Taika Watiti, the Norse god's fourth solo adventure seems to follow Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) on his quest for self-rediscovery after the fallout of "Avengers: Endgame." Considering how he last appeared in a state of severe mental and physical distress, it's about time the hero took a few personal days.
But even the teaser trailer doesn't pretend that Thor's desire for peace will be met by an agreeable universe. Fate immediately draws him into another galactic battle, this time against Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), whose alien antagonist has yet to make a grand appearance in promotional media, but was recently spotted in lego form. Luckily, there's plenty else to dissect in this teaser trailer, and that's exactly what millions of curious fans have done.
There are the easy things to be excited about, like appearances from Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy. There's also a stunningly suited Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) to admire. The biggest reveal in the teaser trailer, though, comes at the very end, and it's being compared to one of the most iconic moments in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mighty Thor wields Mjölnir just like Captain America
Ever since Natalie Portman's return as Jane Foster was publicly confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 (via Variety), Marvel fans have been eager for more information on the first live-action portrayal of Mighty Thor. Of course, after nearly three years of waiting for more details on the upcoming film, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Mighty Thor made her special debut in this first teaser. On Twitter, @sandeep_sanmeyo shared the clip of Foster wielding Mjölnir above the clip of Captain America (Chris Evans) doing the same exact same thing in "Avengers: Endgame" and noted the interesting cinematic parallels between the two scenes. Side by side, the similarities are visually striking.
Both scenes follow the magic hammer as it flies across the screen, from right to left, in a furious beeline towards a new wielder. Both Foster and Rogers catch Mjolnir with intense confidence and hold it at eye level, battle-ready and terrifying. Both clips also feature Thor watching in awe, although the "Avengers: Endgame" clip provided by @sandeep_sanmeyo" doesn't include Thor's full reaction. Of course, there's also a certain thematic similarity between the clips, proving Mjölnir will always work for the worthy, no matter who that person might unexpectedly become.
"Thor: Love & Thunder" is set to enter theaters on July 8.
