Thor: Love And Thunder Trailer Answers A Major Question From Avengers: Infinity War

After a seriously long wait, the first "Thor: Love and Thunder" teaser trailer has finally been released, giving Marvel fans plenty of new material to dive into. According to the official synopsis, the fourth installment of the god of thunder's solo story sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) supposedly having hung up his status as an Avenger and in the midst a quest for inner peace. But it doesn't take long before Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) disrupts Thor's plans for early retirement. To stop the galactic threat, Thor teams up with old friends King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and a newly buffed-up Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

Of course, Thor can't fight any threat without using his mighty weapons. The trailer does reveal that Lady Thor, aka Jane Foster, is now using Mjolnir, albeit a newly repaired version. Thor, on the other hand, continues to weld Stormbreaker, the enchanted axe forged on Nidavellir. While this detail may not seem all that important given that Thor has been using the axe for a while now, it did just solve a major question from "Avengers: Infinity War."

Thor used Stormbreaker to open the Bifrost in Infinity War

If you recall way back in the MCU during "Thor: Ragnorak," Mjolnir was destroyed at the hands of Hela (Cate Blanchett), and Thor was left in search of a new weapon. So, in "Avengers: Infinity War," Thor goes off on his own little adventure with Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to Nidavellir. Once there, Eitri the Dwarf (Peter Dinklage) creates Stormbreaker, and Thor has been fighting hand-in-hand with it ever since.

With the trailer for "Thor: Love and Thunder" officially out, it's confirmed that Thor's weapon of choice is still Stormbreaker. Not only do we know Stormbreaker is in "Love and Thunder," but we also now know that the mighty axe can be used to open the Bifrost, or the bridge that allows travel between the various realms, as seen in the trailer. This marks the first official time we see Thor use Stormbreaker to travel through the Bifrost, as previously only Heimdall (Idris Elba) could open the bridge. That is until he was murdered by Thanos along with all of the other escaping Asgardians at the beginning of "Infinity War." Even Eitri mentioned the axe's special ability back in "Infinity War," saying, "Meant to be the greatest in Asgard. In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost."

Now that we have confirmation that Stormbreaker can indeed access the Bifrost, it finally makes sense how Thor, Rocket, and Groot were able to make it to Wakanda to fight Thanos in "Infinity War." Thor opened the Bifrost to travel from Nidavellir to Wakanda using his handy new axe, and there's no doubt Stormbreaker's ability will also be useful in "Love and Thunder."
