The Staggering Amount Of Time Netflix Viewers Spent Watching The In Between's Debut
Back in March, it was reported that the Paramount+ original movie, "The In Between," starring "Kissing Booth ” actress Joey King, would move to Netflix for an April release (via What's on Netflix). While on Paramount+, the film supposedly didn't experience too much praise or viewership traffic, so Netflix acquired the rights and scheduled its own official re-release of the movie for April 2022. The story follows King's Tessa as a young teenager who has to go through the traumatic experience of losing her love, Skylar (Kyle Allen) to a car accident. However, Tessa begins to experience signs and events that make her believe Skylar is trying to reach her from the afterlife (via IMDb).
So far, "The In Between" isn't performing terribly well with critics, as it sits at a score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Some have noted issues with a story that doesn't make sense while others have issues with the characters themselves. Audiences are responding a little more positively, with many appreciating the depth and love between the main characters in the struggle to make meaning of what happened.
Either way, these reviews are likely to change and grow in the coming months, as "The In Between" is attracting a staggering amount of viewers since it hit Netflix. Here's what we know about the amount of time Netflix viewers have already spent watching "The In Between."
Netflix viewers have already watched The In Between for over 26 million hours
For some time since its release, "The Adam Project" starring Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldaña, and Mark Ruffalo, has held the Netflix viewership trophy with over 10 million hours of viewership. It even remained in the top 10 in viewership on the streaming service for five weeks now, although it was recently overtaken considerably by "The In Between." According to Netflix's official Global Top 10 list, in the span of one week, "The In Between" has taken the top spot for viewership at a staggering 26,770,000 hours viewed by audiences.
This is an incredible feat but also at the same time, somewhat unsurprising given fan support behind previous Netflix-related films starring Joey King, namely "The Kissing Booth" series. At the time of its release in 2018, "The Kissing Booth" was one of the most-watched films in the United States, according to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos (via Vulture). Not to mention, the film served as a catalyst for "Euphoria" actor Jacob Elordi's entire career thus far. Basically, Netflix likely has great confidence in King and the movies that the actress is involved in, and "The In Between" is certainly looking to be no different in terms of audience response.
Only time will tell if "The In Between" remains in the top viewership spot on Netflix for a prolonged period. Either way, that number will likely jump by the millions in the following weeks.
