The Spectacular Now Kissing Scene That Miles Teller Regrets Filming

Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller may have played foes in the dystopian YA series "Divergent," but in 2013's "The Spectacular Now," they played the exact opposite. In this raw film showcasing the many facets of a high schooler's senior year, the pair are lovers.

Teller plays Sutter, a high school senior who has recently broken up with his girlfriend, Cassidy (Brie Larson), and is beginning the process of writing college admission essays. He wants to get back together with Cassidy, but things take a turn when he discovers she has moved on to a new guy and he meets Aimee (Woodley). The two quickly start a romance, which the rest of the film sees play out alongside other troubles facing both Sutter and Aimee.

On the surface, "The Spectacular Now" may seem like just another teen romance movie, but it truly is layered, exploring the fear of graduating from high school, alcoholism, family dynamics, and much more. Nonetheless, the plot still does involve a teen romance, so that comes with the obligatory first kiss — and many other kissing scenes. Teller has shared that he apparently has some woes about one of those very scenes. Here's the story.

Woodley should have saved the supplements for later

Miles Teller revealed to Variety that kissing Shailene Woodley in the film was not all that glamorous, describing how she had taken supplements before filming a kissing scene and they apparently smelled awful — making Woodley's breath equally smell: "Before our first kissing scene, Shailene took these Chinese dirt supplements and shoved them in her mouth. It's like a dirt pouch, and it smells like crap." So while the bad breath is not a reflection of Woodley's hygiene, maybe she should have saved the supplements for later — or at least brushed her teeth.

Woodley has discussed on "Late Show with David Letterman" that she is no stranger to eating clay, explaining that various cultures ingest it for its health benefits: "Clay is one of my favorites because if you look at indigenous cultures around the world, people are eating clay almost daily. It's just a part of their diet" (via Today). Unfortunately for Teller, Woodley's health consciousness did not make for the best kissing scene partner.
