The CSI Reunion You Missed On Black-Ish
Over the course of its run, the television juggernaut "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" was a magnet for actors from all sectors of the industry. The show, which chronicled the exploits of a team of crime scene investigators in Las Vegas as they unraveled the mysteries behind bizarre deaths, quickly garnered a massive fanbase and consequentially became something of a TV hotspot for prominent actors to appear on. The show's main cast boasted storied actors such as Ted Danson and celebrity guest stars on the show ranged from famed musician Taylor Swift to "Les Misérables" star Amanda Seyfried. It was, in many senses, nothing short of event television.
Due to the show's scope in terms of actor count, it was something of an inevitability that actors who had been involved with "CSI" at some point or another would eventually find themselves working with each other again on other projects. However, TV watchers might be surprised to learn that one such reunion between two actors from "CSI" actually took place on one of the most popular ongoing sitcoms on TV right now: ABC's "Black-ish."
Laurence Fishburne and Tracee Ellis Ross reunited for Black-ish
Die-hard fans of "CSI" will remember the character of Dr. Ray Langston, as portrayed by Laurence Fishburne. Langston was a big part of the central team for Seasons 9, 10, and 11 and helped on a number of major cases. However, what fans may remember him best for was his final storyline, in which he faced off against a murderous serial killer to save his estranged ex-wife Gloria Parkes, who was portrayed by Tracee Ellis Ross.
"CSI" was not the last time these two particular actors worked together. In reality, the two reunited just a few years later for "Black-ish," which focuses on the lives of the Johnsons, an African-American family navigating modern life. In the show, Ross stars as Bow Johnson, the mother of the Johnson household, while Fishburne co-stars as Pops Johnson, Bow's husband's father who lives with them.
It's admittedly a bit odd to see the two actors go from playing husband and wife to father-in-law and daughter-in-law, but it's nonetheless a treat for fans of "CSI" to see two important actors from the police procedural classic working together once again. Fans can continue to enjoy this mini-"CSI" reunion before "Black-ish" wraps its current and final season in 2022.
