The Community Character You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Astrology is about self-discovery and self-knowledge. It's a way of understanding your true nature as you go through changes and challenges in your life. It can help guide people through difficulties by making them aware of why they do things and how this potentially could be influenced by the position of the stars when you were born. Given how many other factors influence our lives that we can't directly trace, it's no wonder that this tool, once studied as a science, is still relevant and popular centuries after it was developed. In any event, astrology is equipped with tools that at the very least make you think about your core identity and why you do the things you do.

College is certainly a time for self-discovery, and this experience was at the center of the NBC show "Community." Not only that, but it was about second chances and reinventing yourself. Set in Colorado's fictional Greendale Community College, where "You're already accepted!", the sitcom focuses on a study group consisting of six vastly different characters who nonetheless find ways to bond with each other. Through paintball wars, rivalries with other community colleges, and peeks into other realities (including the infamous "darkest timeline"), the show also got real about each character's traumas, hopes, dreams, and fears. With so many opposing but sharply-defined characters, let's take a look at the "Community" character you are based on your zodiac sign.

Bold Troy Barnes is an Aries

Aries (March 21 – April 19) is the fiery leader of the zodiac. Known as "the Warrior," those born under this sign are headstrong, competitive, and always willing to blaze a new trail. They are full of passion, both for romance and the things they believe in. They can be quick to anger as a response, but that anger often dissipates as soon as it's felt and expressed. Aries is an active sign ruled by Mars, the god of war.

Troy Barnes, the former star high school quarterback, is very much an Aries. For him, the spotlight is less important than being able to express himself passionately. Troy is a heart-on-his-sleeve kind of guy, both in how he thinks about his romantic prospects and how he communicates with his close friends. He and Abed share a mutual sense of nerdy wonder and love running away with their own imaginations. Troy rejects his identity as a jock in order to embrace being a nerd, but he never abandons his sometimes naive but always forceful beliefs. When Pierce leaves him his fortune on the condition that Troy sails around the world, Troy is eager to spring into action.

Indulgent Jeff Winger is a Taurus

Taurus (April 19 – May 20) is the pleasure-seeker of the zodiac. Called "the Sensualist," Taureans love all the creature comforts of home. They want the best food, the finest clothes, and the most extravagant cars. However, they aren't necessarily flashy or attention-seeking. They just want the things they want and aren't afraid to work hard to get them. Those born under this sign are dependable but stubborn, and can take a long time to accept plans or directions that aren't the way they would do something. Above all else, they crave consistency and hate disruptions to their routine.

The Taurus of "Community" is Jeff Winger. The disgraced lawyer, who is disbarred when it is revealed that he doesn't have a valid undergraduate degree (and a questionable legal one), attends Greendale to get that degree with a minimal degree of effort. He only forms the study group as a way of trying to seduce Britta but finds, to his surprise and consternation, that the group responds to his personality and craves leadership from him. Jeff always flinches whenever anyone challenges his expertise on anything or doubts one of his plans. It isn't that Jeff wants to be the leader. It's that he hates the idea that anyone else would be in charge of him. Beyond that, Jeff desperately missed the things he could buy with the money he made as a lawyer, in true Taurus fashion.

Bubbly Dean Craig Pelton is a Gemini

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) is the chattiest member of the zodiac. Referred to as "the Communicator," everything about them moves fast, including their brains, mouths, and wits. A Gemini is often on to an entirely different subject while you were pondering their original question, but they are charming enough to get away with it. They are entertainers but don't need the spotlight the way Leo does. Instead, they make quick strikes with their wit and then move on. They are always coming up with new ideas and schemes, even if they don't always follow through. In fact, their lack of an attention span can make them seem a bit on the flaky side.

Dean Craig Pelton is Greendale's embodiment of the Twins. He's both an authority figure and a party boy, going to great lengths to put on elaborate costumes and events as part of whatever high concept he has cooked up. For example, he dresses up like Tina Turner and Julius Caesar, all in service to a gag with which he wanted to impress the study group. In particular, he has a crush on Jeff Winger and often tries to come up with ways to impress him. Despite his neediness and generally flaky behavior, his charm and good intentions lead him to develop a strong relationship with the study group.

Family-focused Shirley Bennett is a Cancer

Cancer (June 21 to July 22) is the sign most concerned with family. Called "the Nurturer," having a loving, comfortable home is the most important things in life for a Cancer. They are also very emotional and while they prefer to show love, they can also be quick to anger. They can also hold a grudge. Most of the time, they spend most of their energy trying to help the people they love, especially if they are sick or have a problem. A Cancer will drop everything and make others a priority if they are needed. Most Cancers love cooking and having a routine around the house, but they sometimes have trouble if that is disrupted.

Shirley Bennett is the Cancer of "Community." Besides being a devoted mother of three, her sweet and nurturing personality has a running undercurrent of anger. Part of that is because of her anger at her husband for cheating on her, but some of that comes from her past as an intense drinker who frequently got out of control. When she quits drinking, she heads to Greendale to get a degree so she can start a business. Of course, it is a sandwich shop, befitting her nature as someone who loves to cook. While judgmental, Shirley will always be the first to help a fellow member of her study group.

Attention-seeking Pierce Hawthorne is a Leo

Leo the lion (July 23 to August 22) is the performer of the zodiac. They are "the Creative," which means they command and demand a lot of attention. They are self-centered but are also team-oriented, so long as the team helps them put on a show. They put a premium on success and sometimes like to show off their wealth in a flashy way by giving out expensive gifts. Despite all of this, they can also be warm and caring. When a Leo centers on you, they can make you feel like the most special person in the world. They are sometimes vain and like to be complimented, but they are remarkably loyal to their loved ones.

Pierce Hawthorne is the Leo of the Greendale study group crew. Having inherited a great deal of money and claiming to have done it all, he enrolls in Greendale to make friends and be admired by younger people. That never works out, as Pierce alienates the other students as much as he charms them, but his charisma is so powerful that he usually can earn forgiveness. All Pierce wants is to belong and maybe be in charge. He often makes a point of giving ridiculous gifts to others, often couching them in bizarre conditions created for his own amusement. When Troy reveals he had a Twitter account dedicated to the horrible things Pierce said, he is angry until he learns the account had 600,000 followers!

Focused achiever Annie Edison is a Virgo

Virgo (August 23 – September 22) has dual roles in the zodiac. Ruled by Mercury, the messenger of the gods, Virgos are both "the Healer" and "the Analyst." They aren't afraid to crunch numbers and get into the kind of nitty-gritty detail necessary to finish not especially glamorous projects. They are thinkers but not dreamers and frequently use their intellect to solve difficult problems. They have a lot of ideas about what other people should be doing, but their judgment and critical thinking are usually on point, often making their advice valuable. Above all else, their tendency to want to heal others means they always intend the best, even if they can be judgmental.

Annie Edison is Greendale's best Virgo. This diligent planner and overachiever develops an Adderall addiction in high school but faces her problem head-on, reinventing herself in college. In the study group, she's the only one who knows effective study habits. She always tries to help the school, including writing for the newspaper and joining various clubs. Annie often nudges and needles others into trying to be better and is always invested in the cohesion of the group. She is always coming up with new ideas for the group, partly because it was important to Annie, as the youngest in the group, to feel useful.

Justice-seeking Britta Perry is a Libra

Libras (September 23 – October 22) are all about relationships. They are both "the Diplomat" and "the Lover" because they are skilled at mediating conflict and hate being alone. Hopeless romantics, Libras always seek balance and harmony in all of their relationships. They have strong moral codes but are also intellectually flexible, often able to see all sides of a particular conflict. They avoid taking sides or offending others, sometimes to the point where they can't make a decision or get depressed because they are repressing their true feelings. Libras have an intense sense of fairness and duty.

Britta Perry is a Libra because of her highly-developed sense of fairness, which is reflected in her activism and stances on thorny moral problems. Prior to attending Greendale, Britta was in the Peace Corps and was part of an anarchist collective. She is now attending community college to become a therapist. Britta has difficulty managing life path decisions, but she serves as the balance in the group because she is the one person everyone feels comfortable picking on. In a group of intense personalities, her desire to smoothly manage conflicts is often openly mocked. Britta is interested in everything but, sadly, not particularly good at anything. Britta becomes synonymous with failure within the group, and Troy even once refers to her as "The AT&T of people."

Treacherous Ben Chang is a Scorpio

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) is the most enigmatic and unpredictable of the zodiac signs. Known as "the Alchemist," Scorpios are intense, moody, and charismatic. You never quite know what they're thinking or feeling in a given moment, especially since they are so inward-seeking. They aren't afraid to explore their darkest feelings and thoughts, often using it as a tool for personal growth and transformation. While sharp observers, they are also known for being secretive, ambitious, and obsessive.

Ben Chang, a one-time Spanish teacher at Greendale, is the consummate Scorpio. He is the reason the study group forms in the first place, as his bizarre teaching methods baffle his students. It turned out that he has no qualifications to be a teacher, and he is forced to become a student after he loses his job. Chang later engages in bizarre behavior like living in Greendale's ducts. When he becomes a security guard, he consolidates power and stages a coup, reimagining himself as a dictator. He later feigns amnesia to try to get in with the study group. Chang was generally unpredictable, untrustworthy, and overwhelmingly intense at all times. He frequently gives in to his darker impulses, even when he knows better.

Sarcastic Ian Duncan is a Sagittarius

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) is a blunt yet friendly sign. The Archer is called "the Philosopher" because those born under this sign are often are immersed in life's big questions. They are friendly and upbeat, never drifting so far off in life that they neglect their friends and loved ones. However, their critical minds often direct their truths in the form of sarcasm, and a Sagittarius knows how to aim a barb that will draw some blood. However, they're not mean people, and they often go out of their way to make others feel welcome and included.

The Sagittarius at Greendale is Professor Ian Duncan. He's the man that Jeff Winger once got out of a DUI charge, and in return, Duncan gratefully helps him at the school, although he eventually refuses to help him cheat in the guise of teaching him a larger life lesson. A professor of psychology and trained therapist, Duncan is all about the mind. Duncan helps Abed when he is trapped by a stop-motion delusion in the "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas" episode. Duncan is also relentlessly sarcastic, aiming much of his vitriol toward Chang. His field of study is very much engaged with deep thoughts and concepts, but he loves interacting with students. Sometimes too much, as he develops a drinking problem that leads to him acting out at a number of parties.

Gruff Buzz Hickey is a Capricorn

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) is the tough old goat of the zodiac. Practical and no-nonsense, they are called "the Leader," not because of an inflated sense of importance, but because they have the clarity and will to see what needs to get done and how to do it. They work hard, are practical, and are driven by a sense of duty. They value teamwork and togetherness, but they can be stubborn about how things get done. They have maturity and vision, which means their intuition is often correct. The downside to this is that Capricorns are often out of touch with their emotions and have trouble warming up to people.

At Greendale, Professor Buzz Hickey is obviously a Capricorn. The gruff criminology professor was in the military and was also formerly a police detective. However, it is his fifteen years as a professor at Greendale that really makes him so tough. While not at all warm, he is still interested in helping and directing people. He becomes Jeff Winger's mentor when Jeff makes the transition from student to teacher at Greendale, teaching him about boundaries and responsibility. He is able to both teach and inspire Annie because of how direct he is with her. He also works hard as a member of the student-teacher Save Greendale group that mobilizes when the school is about to be sold.

Quirky Sean Garrity is an Aquarius

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) is the quirkiest sign in the zodiac. They are iconoclasts who are mysterious and eccentric. However, they aren't doing it in a calculated way, as a Scorpio might. They're not schemers; they just think differently and care deeply about people in general. That's why they are known as "the Humanitarian." They also aren't particularly in touch with their feelings, preferring to think about the big picture rather than any one person in particular. They are willing to go to some extreme places, and it's not unusual for an Aquarius to have some extreme beliefs, possibly even indulging in conspiracy theories.

The obvious Aquarius at Greendale is Professor Sean Garrity, the drama teacher. However, he goes by other names. Jeff claims to be taking a class on conspiracy theories from a "Professor Professorson," but he is faking it and gets called out by Dean Pelton. When called out, Jeff doubles down, and to his surprise, Professor Professorson shows up and confirms that the class exists! Digging deeper, they learn he was really Professor Wooley, the night school teacher. They then find out that night school is a sham that Wooley created when he faked a course. Jeff then recognizes him as Garrity, the drama teacher, who has been put up to this by Dean Pelton to teach Winger a lesson. Garrity later teaches a course on whether or not Nicholas Cage is a good actor, which baffles Abed.

Imaginative Abed Nadir is a Pisces

Pisces (February 19 – March 20) is the final sign of the zodiac, and it encapsulates many of the best qualities of the others. They are romantics who have a rich fantasy life, which is why they're referred to as "the Dreamer." They are emotional and highly adaptable, often unconsciously mirroring those around them as a way of fitting in. They retain a childlike sense of wonder but often seem wise beyond their years. They are generous, sensitive, and kind. Friendship is deeply important to them. Sometimes, when things get too stressful, they prefer to escape into a fantasy world rather than face their problems head-on.

Abed Nadir is the Pisces of Greendale. His metafictional understanding of reality is such that he often thinks of himself as being on a television show or movie, in part because of his obsession with film. He is once so distraught at Christmas that he imagines himself to be in a stop-motion animated adventure. While he doesn't always express his emotions directly, he will show them while playing various roles, like when he pretends to be Don Draper. He is best friends with Troy, as they encourage and indulge each other's nerdy side and overall creativity. While often seeming childlike, his thinking of others as characters in a story often leads to incredibly incisive insights about them.
