Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins DuckTales Reboot

Disney XD's DuckTales reboot has added a Tony Award winner. Variety reports that Hamilton star (and scribe) Lin-Manuel Miranda has joined the voice cast of the upcoming reboot as Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, a sharp young intern working for Scrooge McDuck's mad scientist Gyro Gearloose who also moonlights as Gizmoduck, a Duckburg hero. You can view art of the new take on the original series fan favorite at the bottom of this article.

The reboot of the popular 1980s Emmy-winning children's series, which also spawned numerous films, is expected to premiere this summer. It will include 21 half-hour episodes and two hour long specials. David Tennant will voice Scrooge McDuck, while Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan will provide the vocals for his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. The cast also includes Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley. Considering the series has already been renewed for a second season, you can also expect quite a few DuckTales adventures to continue into the coming years.

"Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own," said Francisco Angones, co-producer and story editor, in a statement. "In developing the new series, [executive producer] Matt [Youngberg] and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt DuckTales' marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots."

"Lin came to mind instantly for the role of Gizmoduck," added Youngberg. "His rapid-fire earnestness paired with his wide-eyed yet determined optimism made him the perfect person to yell 'BLATHERING BLATHERSKITE!'"

Miranda is a busy guy since opening the Broadway box office smash. He earned an Oscar nomination for penning and performing "How Far I'll Go" from Disney's Moana, and is also set to write songs for the studio's live-action The Little Mermaid remake. He's also still working on a film adaptation of his hit musical In the Heights as he films Mary Poppins Returns, where he'll play Jack alongside Emily Blunt as the title character. In film and television, he is known for his appearances on Do No Harm, Inside Amy Schumer, House, How I Met Your Mother, Speech & Debate, and The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

While we wait to hear Miranda's take on Gizmoduck, read up on the untold truth of DuckTales.
