The Dune Character You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Paul Villeneueve's "Dune" has impressed both audiences and critics alike, being praised for its stunning visuals and edge-of-your-seat storytelling. The adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel has been attempted several times before — an arduous task that has proven to be far too daunting for previous filmmakers. David Lynch, whose trippy 1984 screen version may have become a cult hit, still fell short of the mark of an adequate adaptation for fans of the book. Although some reviewers claim that the 2021 "Dune" has a slow start, most who have seen the film can agree that it provides viewers with compelling sci-fi drama — and a delectable feast for the eyes. The film's cliffhanger ending left fans eager for more, and the director has promised that Part 2 of "Dune" is forthcoming.

Part of the reason why "Dune" has been so successful is its stellar cast of big-name stars. Talents such as Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin helped to give the movie box office appeal, and flesh out the film's intriguing characters. Likely there is at least one character that fans of the movie can immediately relate to, but for those who would rather have the stars decide for them, here's which "Dune" character you are based on your zodiac sign.

Aquarius: Paul Atreides

As the young hero of "Dune," Paul (Chalamet) has the fate of the world on his shoulders. Not only is he the heir of house Atreides, he is also the prophesied Lisan al- Gaib of the Freman, and the one the Bene Gesserit call Kwisatz Haderach. At only fifteen years old, those are a lot of expectations to live up to.

Paul's personality and mannerisms closely share traits with the Aquarius sign — he is thoughtful, intellectual, and an idealist. In the film, we often see Paul deep in his studies, watching holographic encyclopedia entries so that he can better understand the world of Arrakis. He is also quiet and introspective, as Aquarius often can be.

Like Paul, those born under the Aquarius sign are willing to fight for the rights and freedoms of others. When he first learns about the Fremen, Paul has a deep respect for them, even though their race is ostracized. In his visions, Paul sees that he will come to fight by the Fremen's side. If you are an Aquarius, perhaps you are the hero of your own story.

Cancer: Lady Jessica

As Paul's mother and Leto's concubine, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) has a very important role to play in the Atreides family. Along with her motherly duties, she teaches Paul the way of the Bene Gesserit, and trains him to use the Voice. Although she is loyal to the Bene Gesserit order (possibly to a fault), her actions are often led by her heart.

Family is everything to Jessica, which makes her closely related to the Cancer sign of the zodiac. Like Cancers, she is emotional and sentimental. She loves Paul deeply, as she loves his father, the duke, and she is fiercely loyal to them. Yet, also like Cancers, Jessica can be highly manipulative. Knowing it is her duty to give birth only to daughters (apparently in the "Dune" universe, Bene Gesserit have the power to "choose" the sex of a baby), she gives birth to a son — one that will become the powerful Kwisatch Hadderach, and one day the Duke of Atreides. Even so, Cancers should rejoice to be in the same bracket as such a loving and caring woman like Jessica.

Leo: Duke Leto Atreides

A born leader, Leto (Oscar Isaac) is charismatic and confident, which earns him the love and respect of everyone around him. His strength and compassion made his popularity climb so high that even the emperor began to feel threatened by Leto's power. Though loyal to his family, Leto follows duty above all — even when he knows that doing so will lead to his downfall.

Leto most closely matches with the zodiac sign Leo, whose symbol of a lion is the perfect fit for the character. Not only are they courageous and endowed with strong leadership skills, but Leos are also generous and warm-hearted. Leto is a kind and compassionate ruler, as he demonstrates when he sacrifices a hefty supply of Spice for the lives of the workers on Arrakis. The one setback of being a Leo, however, is that their pride can sometimes blind them from the truth. Leto walks into a dangerous situation on Arrakis, and by the time he realizes he's in a trap, it's far too late.

Sagittarius: Duncan Idaho

Full of charm and optimism, it's easy to see why Duncan Idaho (Momoa) is a trusted ally of the Atreides family. Not only is he a skilled fighter, but his ability to make friends wherever he goes makes him the perfect candidate as the Fremen ambassador. After spending time with the desert people of Arrakis, Duncan comes to respect them and their culture, and they in turn accept him as one of their own.

Duncan's easy-going, extroverted traits make him the perfect poster boy for the Sagittarius sign of the zodiac. Those born under the sign of the archer are brave adventurers, always eager to learn, and love to travel. They have a good sense of humor and a constant positive outlook on life. Just like Duncan, everyone wants to be around them — not only because they are fun and energetic, but also loyal friends. It's no wonder that Paul looks up to him so much, and why his death was such a hard blow.

Capricorn: Gurney Halleck

While Duncan Idaho's character is full of good humor and charisma, Gurney Halleck (Brolin) is as serious and dour as they come. That doesn't mean he's any less trusted by the Atreides, however. Gurney is Duke Leto's right-hand man, and there is no one more suited to protect young Paul and teach him the skills he needs to survive the harsh desert world of Dune. When the Harkonnen and Sardaukar attack the house of Atreides on Arrakis, Gurney is at the front of the army, bravely leading the soldiers to battle in spite of impossible odds.

Gurney's somber nature and strict self-discipline are the defining attributes of the Capricorn sign. For Capricorns, family and tradition are the most important things in life. Although they may not show it much, Capricorns do have a softer side. In the book, Gurney demonstrates his gentler side through a love of music, and is actually a talented singer.

Taurus: Baron Vladimir Harkonnen

A terrifying foe, Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgaard) is a ruthless leader who will stop at nothing to meet his goals. He once ruled the planet of Arrakis with an iron fist, having no love for its people and caring only about raking in the profits of the Spice trade. When the emperor took the planet away from the Harkonnens and gave it to the Atreides, the baron's nephew, Rabban (Dave Bautista) was outraged, and ready to declare outright war. However, the baron knew to bide his time — and his patience was soon rewarded, to the devastation of Duke Leto and his family.

Many of the Baron's qualities are a close match with the sign of Taurus — but don't fret, dear bulls. Vladimir Harkonnen may be a cruel villain, that doesn't mean he doesn't have his virtues. Those born under Taurus are known for their patience, resilience, and stability. They are more practical than emotional, which means they can meet challenges head-on. The downside is that they tend to be a bit obsessed with material wealth — just be careful not to go down too dark of a road, or you might find yourself clinging to the ceiling to escape a room filled with poison.

Virgo: Thufir Hawat

Every great house in the "Dune" universe utilizes the skills of a Mentat. They are trusted advisors and political analysts, and their ability to think critically and practically make them essentially human computers. In house Atreides, Thufir Hawat (Stephen McKinley Henderson) is not only an exceptional Mentat to Duke Leto, but also a faithful friend to house Atreides.

His keen intellect and highly organized mind make Thufir a great example of the zodiac sign Virgo. Virgos are great problem solvers who look at things rationally rather than emotionally. They are hard-working and highly responsible, which are traits that Thufir certainly shares.

Virgos can often be overly critical of themselves when they make a mistake. When a hunter-seeker nearly kills Paul Atreides in his room, Thufir blames himself for the breach in security. Falling on his own sword, Thufir tries to resign from his post, but Duke Leto refuses his resignation. Everybody makes mistakes, but Virgos take their missteps a little bit harder than others.

Libra: Dr. Liet Kynes

As the Atreides take control of Arrakis, the transition of the fief is overseen by Dr. Liet Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster), as ordered by the emperor. Kynes is loyal to both the emperor and to the Fremen of the planet, walking a fine line between the two. Her loyalties are tested when the Atreides are attacked and overthrown by the Harkonnen house, who have teamed up along with the emperor. Kynes helps Paul and Jessica to escape, sacrificing her own life in the process.

Kynes has a lot in common with Libra of the zodiac. Those born under this sign are skilled in diplomacy and communication, and are eager to keep the peace and avoid conflict. However, this can sometimes lead to indecision, which can then lead to dire consequences. In the case of Dr. Kynes, her initial instinct is to remain neutral between House Atreides and the emperor's plans — however, in the end, she puts aside her neutrality and does what she believes to be right.

Aries: Rabban Harkonnen

The nephew of Baron Harkonnen, Rabban (Bautista) inherited his uncle's penchant for cruelty and brutality. As the tyrannical overseer of the Spice workers on Arrakis, Rabban earned himself the nickname of Beast, using fear to intimidate the planet's population. When the emperor handed control of Arrakis over to the Atreides house, Rabban responded with outrage, insisting that they fight against the edict. The Baron, however, assures Rabban that patience is the way to proceed instead of brute force.

Rabban's aggressive nature and strong determination make him the embodiment of Aries, a fire sign. Aries are confident and quick to take action, often going head-first into any situation. Their bravery and optimism are admirable qualities, yet they have a tendency to act before they think things through. They are natural-born leaders, and like Rabban, have a demanding presence that is tough to miss. One thing is for certain — if you need to get a job done, give it to an Aries.

Scorpio: Reverend Mother Mohiam

There is plenty of mystery surrounding the Bene Gesserit, an all-female order who silently observe the political machinations of the great houses as they plot from the shadows. The leader of the order is Gaius Helen Mohiam (Charlotte Rampling), and she has dark plans for the Atreides family — young Paul in particular. She believes that Paul could be the legendary Kwisatch Haderich, a messiah meant to further the evolution of humanity. Though the order has been preparing for the chosen one's coming, Mohiam fears that it could also mean the Bene Gesserit's downfall.

As someone who is focused, resourceful, and fearless, Mohiam is the ideal representation for the Scorpio sign. If you're born under this sign, you are a natural leader, and you tend to have an air of mystery about you. Like Mohiam, you are able to turn people to your way of thinking — either through the use of charisma or manipulation. Scorpios are passionate and sometimes quick to anger, and anyone who goes up against a Scorpio had better think twice before doing so.

Gemini: Dr. Wellington Yueh

Wellington Yueh (Chang Chen) was trusted as the Atreides' doctor for many years, until he betrayed them to the Harkonnens. It's hard not to have sympathy for him, though — after all, the baron had taken his wife captive, and threatened to kill her if Yueh didn't cooperate. At least he did his best to keep Paul and Jessica safe, and giving Leto the poison to destroy the baron and his Mentat was a stroke of genius. Sadly, the baron predictably killed Yueh's wife anyway, and Yueh soon after.

With his double-sided nature, Yueh's traits best match with the Gemini sign. Gemini can be both independent and social creatures, and they can be serious one day and fun-loving the next. Their moods change frequently, making them difficult to predict. Yet, like Dr. Yueh, family is very important to them, and their compassion has no end. Gemini are able to adapt to almost any circumstance, and though he was heavily coerced, Yueh succeeded in doing just that.

Pisces: Chani

"Dune" introduces several compelling characters, yet perhaps the most intriguing is one that we barely know anything about. In his dreams, Paul sees a beautiful Fremen girl who intrigues him. It's not until he is forced to flee and seek asylum with the Fremen that he finally meets her in person — the fearless Chani. Since the movie doesn't introduce her until the final act, we'll have to dig into the book a bit to pin down which sign Chani best resembles.

In Frank Herbert's "Dune" novel, Chani is the daughter of Liet Kynes, though she spent all of her time among the Fremen. She is a talented fighter and protective of those she loves. Later in the story, she becomes Paul's romantic interest and his concubine, giving birth to his children. Chani remains with Paul even after he becomes emperor and takes a wife.

Chani's selflessness, love, and loyalty are a great fit with the Pisces zodiac sign. Pisces are passionate and artistic, and wise beyond their years. They tend to put the needs of others first, sacrificing their own happiness in the process. Chani is no pushover, though, and her dedication to those she loves is what gives her strength.
