The Voyeurs Amazon - What We Know So Far

There has been a large number of thriller movies released in 2021, especially on streaming services. From the Netflix release "The Red Dot" to Hulu's "Boss Level," audiences have been given a plethora of engaging and original thrillers to get their hearts racing. The official trailer for Amazon's "The Voyeurs" makes a strong case for the movie being added to the list of best thrillers of the year

"The Voyeurs" trailer introduces a young couple, Pippa and Thomas, who get more than they bargained for when they move into a swanky new apartment. During one of their first nights in their new place, the couple discovers that their windows face directly into the apartment of another young couple. These new neighbors don't seem to care that they're fully exposed to the world and proceed to live their lusty lives on full display for Pippa and Thomas. As time goes on, Pippa becomes increasingly intrigued by her neighbors and finds various ways to insert herself and Thomas into their lives. The trailer teases a thrilling climax as the boundaries blur and Pippa becomes more involved with the young couple than either she or Thomas intended.

Here's what we know so far about "The Voyeurs," including the release date, cast, and plot.

What is the release date of The Voyeurs on Amazon?

The release date for "The Voyeurs" was revealed at the end of the official trailer, which dropped on August 19. According to the trailer, "The Voyeurs" will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, September 10.

One thing "The Voyeurs" trailer makes very clear is that you'll want to make room in your schedule to watch this pulpy thriller when it arrives or, at minimum, make room in your Prime Video queue so you can watch it as soon as possible. If for any reason you're looking forward to checking out "The Voyeurs" but aren't able to watch it during its first weekend on the Prime Video platform, you'll have plenty of time to check it out. Because "The Voyeurs" is an Amazon original movie, it will live on Prime Video permanently. This means you can watch — and re-watch — this intriguing thriller whenever you're in the mood.

Who is in the cast of The Voyeurs on Amazon?

The cast of Amazon's "The Voyeurs" is led by a quartet of young stars whose careers are rapidly taking off. The protagonists are the young couple Pippa and Thomas. This pair will be played by Sydney Sweeney and Justice Smith, as was revealed in a Variety casting report back in November 2019. Sweeney has popped up in numerous high-profile television projects over the last few years, including HBO prestige shows "Euphoria," "Sharp Objects," and "The White Lotus," as well as "Nocturne," one of four horror movies released as part of the Amazon-Blumhouse anthology "Welcome to the Blumhouse." Sweeney has also worked with "The Voyeurs" director Michael Mohan on the Netflix teen drama "Everything Sucks!"

Like Sweeney, Smith has also been popping up in a number of popular tentpoles and TV shows. Audiences will be most familiar with Smith through his performances in "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," "Detective Pikachu," and HBO's teen drama "Generation." Soon, Smith will be seen in "Jurassic World: Dominion" and the "Dungeons & Dragons" movie starring Chris Pine.

Starring alongside Sweeney and Smith in "The Voyeurs" is "X-Men: Apocalypse" alum Ben Hardy and Netflix's "The Society" cast member Natasha Liu Bordizzo as the couple who grab Pippa and Thomas's voyeuristic attention. Additional cast includes Katharine King So ("Jupiter's Legacy"), Cait Alexander ("The Handmaid's Tale"), Caitlyn Sponheimer ("The Boys"), and Madeline Harvey ("The Bold Type").

What is the plot of The Voyeurs on Amazon?

Luckily for us, the official synopsis of "The Voyeurs" was included in the same 2019 Variety report that announced the casting of Sydney Sweeney and Justice Smith. According to Variety, "The Voyeurs" tells the story of Pippa (Sweeney) and Thomas (Smith), "a young couple who move into their dream apartment, only to find their windows look directly into a unit across the street — a volatile and attractive couple (Hardy and Bordizzo) who captivate the pair. When they attempt to anonymously intercede in their lives, they unwittingly set in motion a chain of events that will lead to disaster."

"The Voyeurs" is an entirely original story from writer/director Michael Mohan. Prior to "The Voyeurs," Mohan's screenwriting experience is primarily in writing short films. Mohan also has a co-writing credit on the 2012 Alison Brie and Lizzy Caplan drama "Save the Date," his feature film directorial debut, as well as a writing credit on the short-lived Netflix YA show "Everything Sucks!" After spending time writing teen drama, "The Voyeurs" appears to mark Mohan's return to adult fare and sees the writer/director working in a new genre: the adult thriller.

Get ready, because "The Voyeurs" arrives on Amazon Prime Video on September 10.
