Vin Diesel On Doing The Fate Of The Furious Without Paul Walker

It was something Paul Walker said that got Vin Diesel to return to Fast and the Furious after the death of the man he described as a brother. In an interview with GamesRadar, Diesel talked about how Walker's promise to fans brought him back to the franchise and about how tough it was to film after the death of his friend.

Diesel said that, following Walker's untimely death in the midst of filming Furious 7, he never wondered whether or not the franchise could continue– he wondered whether he could. "It wasn't just a question of whether this franchise could work without Paul," Diesel said. "It was whether I could even survive doing it without Paul." However, Diesel remembered an old interview in which Walker guaranteed eight films in the franchise. "That hit me," he said.

Walker's death still weighed heavily on the set of Fast 8. "You're talking about a bond and a brotherhood," Diesel said. "The pain wasn't about whether something would work. F— the film. It was about the loss of someone very important in my life. Was there ever any moment I wasn't thinking about him? That's the question. Every day I'd be saying, 'This movie has to be amazing because of Paul.'"

The Fate of the Furious will see Diesel's Dom turning his back on his family to work with Charlize Theron's Cypher, who is described in the newest trailer as "the very definition of high-tech terrorism." "From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world's stage... and to bring home the man who made them a family," teases the synopsis.

Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, and Helen Mirren also star. The movie is due out on April 14, but in the meantime, check out our exclusive photos from the set and watch some of the best Vin Diesel movies.
