Chandler's Biggest Secret On Friends

Though the final episode of "Friends" premiered over 15 years ago, it remains beloved by both old and new fans. Throughout its 10-season run, we watched the "Friends" crew Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) go through tons of ups and downs, but they managed to work through their troubles and remain best friends through it all.

Despite some of the "Friends" scenes that went too far and the show's general lack of diversity, "Friends" has remained a great example of adult friendships since it debuted in the '90s. One way the group portrayed real issues that friends face was through their handling of secrets about each other. Much like real life, each character in "Friends" had their fair share of personal secrets, though some were much funnier (or much more serious) than others.

The goofy and unfortunately named Chandler Bing had several secrets of his own, but there's one that stands out among the rest as his biggest secret of all.

The one where we finally learned Chandler's full name

Chandler got flack for his name for what seems like the entirety of "Friends." Whether he was being teased for his "uncool" first name or hilariously called Miss Chanandler Bong on his TV Guide deliveries, it was common knowledge that Chandler's name was an easy target for jokes. The joke went even further in Season 8, when we learned that Chandler also had an embarrassing middle name.

In Season 8 Episode 5, Ross discovered that one of Chandler's coworkers called Chandler by the name of Toby, and Chandler never got the courage to correct him — even after five years. When Ross tried to convince Chandler that he had to tell the guy the truth, Chandler brushed it off and said "So he calls me Toby once in a while — what's the big deal? Could be worse. It's not like he's calling me Muriel." Chandler then froze, realizing that he just confessed his true middle name for the first time, before Ross connected the dots in surprise.

That's right — after knowing each other for years, Ross never knew the truth behind Chandler's full name: Chandler M. Bing. Ross's reaction was hilarious, as was his line "Chandler Muriel Bing. Boy, your parents never even gave you a chance, did they?" The revelation was so out of the blue, and the name was so random and old lady-like, that it remains one of the funniest revealed secrets of the series.
