The A List Season 2 - What We Know So Far

The supernatural British teen drama "The A List," which Season 1 writer Dan Berlinka once described as "'Mean Girls' meets 'Lost,'" is coming back after an extended break for another batch of episodes on Netflix.

The first season of "The A List" introduced viewers to the main character Mia (Lisa Ambalavanar), a strong, likable young woman who shows up at a British summer camp on the remote Peregrine Island, expecting to be a dominant figure in the group. However, Mia soon meets Amber (Ellie Duckles), a mysterious figure who instantly becomes the center of attention. While Mia attempts to manage her feelings of jealousy and enjoy her summer on the beautiful island of the coast of the U.K., she begins to notice a series of supernatural events that seem to follow Amber wherever she goes.

While the future of the series has been in doubt ever since BBC opted not to produce Season 2, Deadline confirmed late in 2019 that the show would live on thanks to new backing from Netflix. After a lengthy production period, viewers now know when they can return to the thrilling stories of "The A List." Here's everything fans need to know about Season 2's release date, returning cast, and plot.

What's the release date for The A List Season 2?

According to a BBC News interview with executive producer Anne Brogan, the first season of "The A List" was developed for the streaming service iPlayer as a means of competing with teen dramas such as "Riverdale," episodes of which hit Netflix after premiering on the CW. However, the success of "The A List" in the U.K. quickly caught the eyes of none other than Netflix itself, who promptly snapped up global distribution rights.

That arrangement would prove vital when BBC abruptly backed out of producing Season 2, leaving Netflix to take the lead on developing further episodes, according to a Deadline interview with lead writer Nina Metivier. The follow-up season was officially on December 28, 2019, per Deadline, but the imminent COVID-19 pandemic would keep the show from making a quick return to screens.

However, after more than a year of waiting, fans finally learned the release date for Season 2 of "The A List" from the official Netflix trailer. The show returns on June 25, 2021.

Who is in the cast of The A List Season 2?

Netflix has kept pretty tight-lipped on what exactly we can expect to see in Season 2 of "The A List," but the recent release of the official trailer at the very least confirms which cast members are coming back.

Lisa Ambalavanar will return as Mia, as will Rosie Dwyer, who will once again play Mia's sarcastic friend Alex. The mysterious Amber is to be played once more by Ellie Duckles, and Michael Ward and Cian Barry will again be featured as Brendan and Dave, who team up with Mia to investigate the secrets of Peregrine Island. Rounding out the cast is Georgina Sadler as Petal, whose relationship with Alex was a focal point in Season 1, and Savannah Baker, who once again plays the enthusiastically helpful Kayleigh. Finally, Indiana Ryan will reprise her role as Midge, the missing young woman who – spoiler alert! – shockingly reappears halfway through the first season, as will Max Lohan as Luka.

Also seen are some new characters, including a middle-aged woman in charge of a mysterious facility. However, Netflix has yet to announce the new cast members for Season 2 of "The A List."

What's plot of The A List Season 2?

The official trailer is the best source for fans to try to piece together what the plot of "The A List" Season 2 will be, since no one involved with the show has discussed the next chapter at length.

From the brief footage shown in the upcoming season's previews, fans can surmise that the cliffhanger ending of Season 1 will be fully explored in Season 2 of "The A List." The groups' strange experiences in Season 1 are explained as hallucinations caused by a toxic chemical leak, although it's clear that Dave and Brendan feel that something more sinister is being covered up. Meanwhile, Alex, Kayleigh, and Midge are taken to a mysterious institute, which Mia decides to locate in order to further unravel what's happening to her and her friends.

It also appears that Mia, Midge, and Amber all find a deeper connection to the supernatural powers they began to experience in the series' first season. To find out exactly what these new abilities mean for the characters of "The A List," fans will just have to get ready to watch all eight Season 2 episodes when they're released on June 25.
