Nailed It Season 5 Release Date, Judges, And Challenges - What We Know So Far

Nailed It! is one of Netflix's most successful game shows. The baking competition series has been nominated for three Emmys, twice for Outstanding Competition Program and once for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for Nicole Byer, which made her the first Black woman ever nominated for that award.

The show has a simple, irresistible premise: Amateur bakers try to recreate elaborate confections made by professional dessert artists, with hilarious results. The grand prize is a modest $10,000, so it's more about the fun of the experience than the cash. The judges are Byer, chocolatier Jacques Torres, and a celebrity guest, usually a comedian like Maya Rudolph or Jason Mantzoukas or a celebrity baker like Rosanna Pansino or Christina Tosi. Since premiering in March 2018, the show has run for four full seasons and two holiday special seasons and spawned international versions in Mexico, France, Spain, and Germany, which are all also available on Netflix.

It's been a long while in Nailed It! time since season 4 premiered back in April of last year, a delay you can blame on the pandemic. But the show is finally almost back, and season 5 is debuting very soon. Here's what we know about the new season of Nailed It!, which is subtitled Double Trouble.

What is Nailed It! season 5's release date?

Nailed It! season 5 arrives on Netflix on Friday, March 26. It will consist of six 35-minute episodes.

Nailed It!: Double Trouble will be unique among seasons of the reality competition series. For the first time, contestants will compete on teams of two, according to Mashed. Here's Netflix's official description of Double Trouble: "This time, home bakers pair up in teams of two to take a shot at recreating edible masterpieces for a $10,000 prize. From best buds to brothers and sisters, these bakers are twice as bad. This season, we go far and wide for inspiration, ranging from delicious baked treats inspired by Greek mythology to sugary desserts from dear old Grandma."

Although Nailed It!: Double Trouble has a unique title and competition format, it is officially the fifth season of the show. Nailed It! has not yet been picked up for season 6, though its widespread popularity and low cost to produce make it a virtual lock to be renewed.

Who are Nailed It! season 5's judges and what are the challenges?

Nicole Byer and Jacque Torres return to shake their heads in exasperation at the absolute failures of cakes the contestants put in front of them. "Zis is painful to watch," Torres says in his refined yet savage French accent.

Byer and Torres will be joined behind the table by some very fun guest judges, including rapper A$AP Ferg and comedians Brian Posehn, Bobby Lee, Ron Funches, Lil Rel Howery, and Andrea Savage. The judges will be socially distanced. There will even be a famous contestant this season — The Kissing Booth star Joey King will attempt to bake alongside her sister.

The Nailed It!: Double Trouble trailer also shows what some of the season's baking challenges will be. There's a cake shaped like an old lady, a cake shaped like an octopus, and a cake shaped like a roller coaster. There are chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes. And all the attempts at recreating the beautiful artisan cakes look absolutely awful. This season is going to be double the fail and double the fun.
