The Secrets She Keeps - What We Know So Far

The psychological thriller The Secrets She Keeps, an Australian TV series from 2020, focuses on the events that threaten to tear apart the families of two women who are both pregnant at the same time. Based on a novel from 2017 by Michael Robotham, the show is currently available on some streaming services, but the series is about to get much more accessible to viewers.

Since it's already been available for some time, viewers have already been able to see it and judge it. The short series has a 78 percent Tomatometer score at Rotten Tomatoes, with a critic at the Wall Street Journal calling it "a spoiler minefield fertilized with red herrings." Another critic from The Age wrote that the domestic noir thriller "honors the tropes of the genre" and "doesn't exactly play its cards close to its chest." Basically, if you know the show is about two women from different walks of life who are pregnant at the same time, you can infer the layers that go into the story.

What is the release date for The Secrets She Keeps?

The first and only season (to date) of The Secrets She Keeps has been out for about a year already — it aired on Network Ten in Australia in April 2020, then moved to Ireland's RTE One in June. In July, it debuted on BBC One and was made available through BBC's iPlayer. In the U.S., the show is available in numerous places, including Amazon Prime Video through the Sundance Now and AMC+ streaming services. You can purchase the first season on Amazon, too.

However, you'll soon be able to watch it for free in the U.S. The show airs its six episodes beginning at 10 p.m. ET on Monday, April 19 on AMC. So, if you've been interested in seeing the series so far, this will be a good time to catch it without having to shell out money for a streaming service.

Who's in the cast of The Secrets She Keeps?

The cast of The Secrets She Keeps is anchored by Laura Carmichael, whom you've seen play Lady Edith Crawley in Downton Abbey, as Agatha Fyfle. Jessica De Gouw, who's known for her roles as The Huntress in Arrow and as Mina Murray in NBC's Dracula, plays the more sophisticated Meghan Shaughnessy. The Guardian's review of the series said both women turned in fine performances in this female-centered drama and gave special kudos to Carmichael for her role as the seemingly less fortunate grocery store shelf-stacker Agatha.

Michael Dorman (Patriot, For All Mankind) is Jack, Meghan's husband. Michael Sheasby (Home and Away) plays a sailor and the father of Agatha's baby. Other regular cast members include Ryan Corr (The Commons), Cariba Heine (Everyone Is Doing Great), Elizabeth Alexander (All Saints), and young newcomer Henry McWilliam, who plays one of Meghan's two little children.

What is the plot of The Secrets She Keeps?

The narrative focuses on two women who encounter each other in a market in a wealthy Sydney suburb. Both women are pregnant and due at the same time, but their lives couldn't be more different. Meg is an online influencer with a husband who's a TV sports reporter, while stalkerish Aggie lives near poverty and has a dead-end job in the grocery store where they meet. Agatha becomes jealous of Meghan's picture-perfect life, but underneath it all both have secrets they need to conceal. Their lives will collide in a tragic and thrilling (if somewhat predictable) conclusion that's a result of Agatha's obsession and psychosis.

The story is said to be based on a real-life crime from the mid-1990s (but don't click if you don't want spoilers). As the series covers all the events of the original novel, it's unlikely (but still possible) that the series will ever get a second season, so enjoy it while you can!
