Will We Ever Get A Kingsman 3?

While the James Bond franchise has offered viewers a thrilling spy movie experience, it can be argued that the Kingsman films have helped refine the genre. Matthew Vaughn, the director behind the two films in the series thus far, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, took a fresh approach to espionage movies by adding elements of humor and a beloved cast of characters. In fact, it's these core elements that make the film series enjoyable for fans who were introduced to Kingsman through the graphic novel series

Following up the The Golden Circle, a third entry to the series was later green-lit, with Vaughn taking the helm yet again. However, with so many Kingsman projects in the works, fans may have to wait a bit before they get to even see a trailer for the film. Despite the lack of any solid information, Kingsman 3 is very much on the way, it just might take a little more time than initially planned.

The new Kingsman film is very much in the works

Matthew Vaughn confirmed the third linear entry in the Kingsman film series in 2018. During an interview with Empire, the director explained that the upcoming film would be "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship." Empire indicated that the second sequel — which Screen Rant would later confirm is titled Kingsman: The Blue Blood — and a prequel titled The King's Man would be shot back-to-back. Details for both films were kept tightly under wraps, however fans of the series should note that the prequel, set in the early 1900s, will not feature Taron Egerton, who's most notably known for playing Gary "Eggsy" Unwin in the series.

However, Egerton is definitely going to be a part of the The Blue Blood. During a panel at ACE Comic Con Midwest in 2019 (via Comicbook.com), Egerton confirmed the script is in place. "I'm really not allowed to say anything, but there is a script. It's a really neat idea. That plan, at the moment, is what we'd like to do another one, one more time," he said.

Egerton also expressed his feelings about his role and the Kingsman films. "It was the role that kind of started my film career so I'm always going to feel, you know, a great fondness for the part," he said. "I would like to do one more because frankly, I'd like to say goodbye to [Eggsy] in a befitting way and to finish the trilogy."

There's no solid release date for Kingsman: The Blue Blood

The release window for Kingsman: The Blue Blood is a bit hard to pin down. At the moment, Vaughn is focusing all of his efforts on The King's Man, which has had its fair share of release debacles. The prequel film was originally scheduled to have a November 2019 release, but a variety of issues pushed the movie back several times and the film was ultimately delayed to August 20, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the films being shot consecutively, delays in the prequel's production will naturally cause issues with The Blue Blood

Vaughn explained that he wanted to connect the two films in an interview with Empire (via Cinema Blend) in 2020, saying "We've put seed for what's going to happen in Kingsman 3 all the way back into this. And it's going to be very different." Additionally, a 2019 DigitalSpy interview with Vaughn also placed blame on the prequel's release struggles for the Blue Blood delay. "We've got to finish off the Eggsy and Harry relationship," the director said. "The final chapter of their relationship needs to be told, which we've got ready to do and I'm hoping to shoot that later this year or the beginning of next year."

Vaughn might not even direct the next Kingsman film

Matthew Vaughn also indicated that he might not even be in charge of Kingsman: The Blue Blood, explaining that another director was initially going to take on the project, but they had other commitments that took precedence. Vaughn discussed it during the Empire interview (via SyFy), joking about not wanting to wait too long for the film to come out. "I actually don't know what I want to do," he said. "There is an opportunity for a director to really change it up, but I'm considering it. But we need to make it because I don't want Colin in a Zimmer frame, or Eggsy in nappies. So we need to get on with it."

The future of the Kingsman franchise is still a bit uncertain. With The Blue Blood still in its early stages, fans will have to continue hanging tight until either Vaughn or Egerton discuss further details, or when the prequel hopefully releases in 2021.
