The Makeup Mishap You Completely Missed In WandaVision Episode 3
Possible spoilers for episode 3 of WandaVision ahead!
Another week has come and gone, which means it's time for another kooky adventure with Marvel's favorite Disney+ streaming darlings Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). And yes, episode 3 of the MCU's flagship streamer WandaVision is every bit as wacky and wondrous as episodes 1 and 2 with the dynamic duo tripping to the '70s for a very Brady Bunch-styled adventure centered around the newly pregnant Wanda.
For those acquainted with Wanda and Vision's progeny, the unexpected episode 2 pregnancy twist promises more bizarre times ahead for both. If you're not familiar with that Marvel storyline, we wouldn't dream of spoiling it here. Just know that if WandaVision intends to fully indulge in it, "weird" doesn't even come close to what might be in store.
That being said, episode 3 of the series further developed that plot thread while also fleshing out the mystery surrounding what's actually happening to the Scarlet Witch and her baby daddy. Thankfully, the episode delivered a few more teases about the who's and what's behind it, too. Unfortunately, episode 3 of WandaVision also delivered a production gaffe that's proving a bit embarrassing for cast and crew.
Fear not, the stars of the show didn't leave a craft services coffee cup in the frame, so at least they've got that going for them. Because even if the Game of Thrones gang have since removed that infamous cup from the season 8 episode, the series will never live that ridiculous oversight down. By comparison, the WandaVision gaffe is a relatively minor affair — one that resulted from Paul Bettany's Vision showing a bit more skin than anyone realized.
Paul Bettany might've needed a few more minutes in the makeup chair
No, Vision didn't bare all for the first nude scene in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rather, it seems the actor who portrays the MCU's artificially created superhero didn't spend quite enough time in the makeup chair ahead of shooting a scene for the third episode of WandaVision. As a result, the pasty skin of Paul Bettany was inadvertently exposed at a time when he's meant to be in full red-skinned Vision regalia.
That makeup mishap occurred in the opening moments of episode 3, amid yet another classic TV-inspired opening theme song montage. At one point in said montage, Wanda and Vision are seen gleefully holding hands while enjoying their new backyard swing set. If you look closely at Vision's other arm, you can indeed see Bettany's natural skin exposed through the cuff of his shirt.
As mentioned, the problem is that Bettany's meant to be in Vision mode during the scene, so pale human skin should not be visible. Yes, it's a very minor infraction — so much so that if you blink during the scene, you probably won't even know it happened. But with viewers being as savvy as they are these days, and streaming tech allowing them to rewind and freeze the frame whenever they want, it's virtually impossible to sneak such mistakes past the masses.
Obvious embarrassment aside, the WandaVision makeup gaffe is almost more funny than anything else, and about as far a cry from that glaring Game of Thrones error as you can get. Even so, as WandaVision is fast becoming a legit standout in the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, we should all be hoping such issues don't become the norm.
